The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) is the women's wing of the Republican Party in the United States. Women In The United States Senate
This article covers the history of women in the United States Senate and various milestones achieved by female senators. It includes a list of all women who have served in the Senate, a list of current female senators, and a list of states represented by women in the Senate. The first female U.S. senator, Rebecca Latimer Felton, represented Georgia for a single day in 1922, and the first woman elected to the Senate, Hattie Caraway, was elected from Arkansas in 1932. Fifty-eight women have served in the upper house of the United States Congress since its establishment in 1789. As of January 20, 2021, there are 24 women (15 Democrats, 8 Republicans, and 1 Independent) serving as U.S. senators. Betty Heitman
Betty Green Heitman (November 27, 1929 – February 1, 1994) was a Republican activist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. From 1978 to 1980 she was president of the National Federation of Republican Women. During her tenure the organization achieved financial independence from the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. She also prodded U.S. Presidents Ronald W. Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush to appoint more women to executive government offices. Background Heitman was a native of Malvern in Hot Spring County, near Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated in 1949 from Texas Woman's University in Denton in North Texas. In 1980, she was named a distinguished alumnus of the institution. Dorothy Andrews Elston Kabis (March 22, 1917 – July 3, 1971) was a Republican Party activist from the U.S. state of Delaware who was appointed the 33rd Treasurer of the United States, having served from May 8, 1969, until her death. She was the only treasurer to marry while in office. Biography Elston Kabis was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to Reginald Hastings Andrews and the former Mabel Aston. Mary Elizabeth Pruett Farrington (May 30, 1898 – July 21, 1984), more commonly known as Elizabeth P. Farrington, was publisher of the ''Honolulu Star-Bulletin'' and an American politician who served as delegate to the United States Congress for the Territory of Hawai'i. She was the wife to Joseph Rider Farrington, whom she had succeeded in Washington, DC. Her father-in-law was the Territorial Governor of Hawai'i Wallace Rider Farrington.
