National Democratic Congress (Zambia)
National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a political party in Zambia. It was formed by former Information minister Chishimba Kambwili after he was fired from the ruling Patriotic Front by President Edgar Lungu in 2016. Kambwili had been a fierce critic of President Lungu since he was relieved off his duties in 2016. In 2018, the NDC was banned from holding public meetings and Kambwili was arrested for inciting public violence. In April 2021, Kambwili resigned from the NDC following an internal dispute with party Vice President Joseph Akafumba, and Kambwili has since allied himself once again with the Patriotic Front party. The party’s current leader is Saboi Imboela Saboi Imboela (born 10 October 1977) is a Zambian politician who leads the National Democratic Congress, a Zambian opposition political party. Chishimba Kambwili
Chishimba Kambwili (born 3 June 1969) is a former member of the National Assembly of Zambia for Roan Constituency (2006 - 2019) in Luanshya District. He has also held several posts in the cabinet. He is the former leader of the National Democratic Congress. He was born in Luanshya where he subsequently completed his education. Kambwili was also the National Youth Chairman for the Patriotic Front until December 2015. Kambwili was first appointed Minister of Foreign affairs however was then moved to Minister of Labour, then Minister of Sports and Youth and later Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services. He was also the spokesperson of the Patriotic Front government during his tenure. Patriotic Front (Zambia)
The Patriotic Front (PF) is a social democratic political party in Zambia. The party was formed by Michael Sata as a breakaway party of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) in 2001 after the President Frederick Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa as its presidential candidate for 2001 elections. The party's main base of support are usually the youth and poor people in urban centres (although this support wavered starting in 2021), as well as members of the Bemba people in Copperbelt Province and Lusaka Province. After several years, the PF gained power in the 2011 general elections, and governed until the 2021 elections. Formation The Patriotic Front was formed as a political party in 2001. Edgar Lungu
Edgar Chagwa Lungu (born 11 November 1956) is a Zambian politician who served as the sixth president of Zambia from 25 January 2015 to 24 August 2021. Under President Michael Sata, Lungu served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence. Following Sata's death in October 2014, Lungu was adopted as the candidate of the Patriotic Front in a Convention of the Patriotic Front in Kabwe, for the January 2015 presidential by-election, which was to determine who would serve out the remainder of Sata's term. In the election, he narrowly defeated opposition candidate Hakainde Hichilema and took office on 25 January 2015. Lungu was elected to a full presidential term in the August 2016 election, again narrowly defeating Hichilema. Saboi Imboela
Saboi Imboela (born 10 October 1977) is a Zambian politician who leads the National Democratic Congress, a Zambian opposition political party. Previously, she was a singer for the singing group Shatel in the late 90s and early 2000s. Early life and education Imboela was born on 10 October 1977 to late Police Chief Edwin Imboela. She has a certificate in Journalism from Manfield College and a diploma in computer studies from ZAMIM. She later enrolled at University of London (Westlyn College) where she did law, sociology and English. She then went to the University of Zambia and commenced her full time study in Political Science and Development Studies. There, she graduated as the best student in her field and was later offered her a job as a tutor.
