Marshal Fahim National Defense University
The Marshal Fahim National Defense University, also known as the Afghan National Defense University, is a military academy located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It formally housed various educational establishments for the Afghan Armed Forces. The university sits on a 105 acres of land west of Kabul in the Qargha area. The University was taken over by the Taliban after the withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan. There are three distinct parts to the university: * the National Military Academy of Afghanistan (NMAA), * the Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA), and * the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy, which will include the Sergeant Major Academy. NATO Defense College (NDC) is the international military college for North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries. It is located in Rome, Italy. History The idea of a NATO Defense College originated with General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who identified very early on the need for a new international institution with a unique education mission. On 19 November 1951, the NATO Defense College opened its doors to Course 1 in Paris. In 1966, France withdrew from the Alliance's integrated military structure and the College moved to the EUR quartier of Rome, where it continues to fulfil its mission. National Defence College, Uganda is a National Security and Strategic Studies training and educational institution in Uganda. Location The college is located in Njeru, in Buikwe District. This is near the city of Jinja, approximately , by road, east of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Overview The Defence College is expected to produce graduates in strategic leadership to government on national and international security matters. It is intended to be an institute of excellence on defence, security and national development. The Joint Service Defence College (JSDC) was a training academy for British military personnel from 1983 to 1997. It has since been amalgamated into the Joint Services Command and Staff College. History The college was established as the Combined Staff College (CSC) in 1947. The college was an independent Ministry of Defence Establishment offering courses to officers of all three services. It was based at Latimer House in Latimer, Buckinghamshire. It was renamed the National Defence College (NDC) in 1971. On 12 February 1974, the IRA detonated a bomb at the NDC; there were no fatalities. In 1983 CSC was renamed the Joint Service Defence College (JSDC), and moved to the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
