National Conference Of University Professors
The National Conference of University Professors (NCUP) is an organisation for university professors in the United Kingdom. The present Patron is Pauline Perry, Baroness Perry of Southwark. The founding president was mathematician Thomas Brooke Benjamin. NCUP was founded in 1989 by a group of university professors. It is a non-political organisation that aims to promote beneficial developments across United Kingdom universities. Members come from all academic disciplines. According to the membership criteria: 'Full membership is open to all who hold, or have held, the title of Professor, Visiting Professor or Honorary Professor within a recognised University in the United Kingdom for a minimum of one year. Roger Watson (born 20 November 1955) is a British academic. He is Academic Dean in the School of Nursing, Southwest Medical University, China and until 2022 was the Professor of Nursing at the University of Hull. He is the editor-in-chief of '' Nurse Education in Practice'' and an Editorial Board Member of the WikiJournal of Medicine'. Watson was the Founding Chair of the Lancet Commission on Nursing, and a founding member of the Global Advisory Group for the Future of Nursing. Watson was elected Vice President of the National Conference of University Professors in 2020 and became President in 2022 until 2024. Pauline Perry, Baroness Perry of Southwark (née Welch; born 15 October 1931) is an educator, educationist, academic, and activist. She is a Conservative politician and was for 25 years a working member of the British House of Lords. In 1981 she became Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools in England. In 1986 she became Vice-Chancellor of South Bank Polytechnic, and serving during its transition to a university, became the first woman in history to run a British university. Early life Perry was educated at Wolverhampton Girls' High School and Girton College, Cambridge. where she read Moral Sciences (philosophy) and received her MA. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition.
