100 Metres
The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. It has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1928 for women. The inaugural World Championships were in 1983. The reigning 100 m Olympic or world champion is often named "the fastest man or woman in the world". Fred Kerley and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the reigning world champions; Marcell Jacobs and Elaine Thompson-Herah are the men's and women's Olympic champions. On an outdoor 400-metre running track, the 100 m is held on the home straight, with the start usually being set on an extension to make it a straight-line race. Shane Naylor
Shane Anthony Naylor (born 3 November 1967) is an Australian former athlete who competed in sprinting events during the 1980s and 1990s. Post athletics, he has been involved in powerlifting and is a masters world record holder. Biography Naylor grew up in the Victorian town of Tatura near Shepparton and has a younger sister Lee who was also a notable sprinter. He was an under-18 national champion in the 100 metres. A four-time national 100 metres champion, Naylor won his first title in 1987 as a 19-year old. In 1992 he finished sixth in the final of the IAAF World Cup and only narrowly missed the qualifying standard that year for the Olympics in Barcelona. He represented Australia at two Commonwealth Games, including in 1994 when he claimed a silver medal as part of the 4x100 metres relay team. Gerrard Keating
Gerrard Keating (born 3 December 1962) is a former Australian 100 metre sprinter. Originally from Ballarat, Victoria, he was a champion junior sprinter and won the Australian 100 metre championship in 1986. In 1981 he competed at the Pacific Conference Games where he finished 4th in the 100 metres, and took the silver with the Australian sprint relay team in the 4 × 100 m. He then competed for Oceania at the 1981 World Cup in the 100 metres where he finished 7th, and then 8th in the relay. In 1982 he competed at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane where he finished 9th in the 100 metre final, and 4th in the sprint relay final. He went on to compete at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki where he got as far as the 2nd round in the 100 metres and relay before he was eliminated. Peter Gandy (born 2 September 1961) Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, is a former Australian sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Richard James (born 9 March 1956) is an Australian academic and former sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres. He was an Australian Junior 100 metre champion, and represented Australia in 1979 in the World Cup where he finished 6th in the 100 metres and 7th in the 4 × 100 metres relay. In 1980 he won the Australian 100 metre title. He is a prominent Australian academic in the field of higher education research. Paul Narracott
Paul Narracott (born 8 October 1959) was the first Australian sportsperson (and only male) to have represented Australia at both a Summer ( Los Angeles, 1984) and Winter Olympics ( Albertville, 1992). Starting his career as a track sprinter, Paul was Australian Junior 100/200 metres champion. In 1977 he won his first of six Australian senior 100 metres championships, and was also 2nd in the 200 metres championships on four occasions. Career In 1977 he won gold at the 100 metres at the Pacific Conference Games, he also won silver in the 200, and took two bronzes in the 4x100, and 4x400 at these Championships. He also competed at the World Cup in the 100 metres for Oceania where he finished 8th. Greg Lewis (athlete)
Gregory Lewis (born 9 December 1946 in Victoria) is a former Australian Olympic athlete who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Achievements Lewis won six Australian Championships during his career and represented Australia at the 1968 Olympic Games and two Commonwealth Games. In his final international competition, the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, Lewis won a gold medal as part of the victorious Australian 4 x 100 metres relay team. Additional information In 1972, Lewis married Commonwealth Games High jumper Carolyn Wright. Graham Haskell
Graham Haskell (born 30 August 1948) is an Australian former athlete of the 1970s. Born in England, Haskell competed as a sprinter and previously held the national record in the 100 metres at 10.1 seconds. He was a two-time national 100 metres champion. At the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch he was a member of the gold medal-winning 4x100 metres relay team (with Laurie D'Arcy, Greg Lewis and Andrew Ratcliffe).
