National Biodiversity Conservation Area
A National Biodiversity Conservation Area (NBCA) is an environmentally protected area in Laos. There are all together 21 different NBCAs in Laos, protecting 29,775 square kilometers. Another 10 NBCAs have been proposed, many of them being treated by authorities as though they were already officially protected. Phou Xieng Thong National Protected Area
Phou Xieng Thong National Protected Area is a national protected area in Salavan and Champasak provinces of southern Laos. This park, the country's only park on the Mekong river, is home to a wide variety of animal and plant species, some endangered. The park is an ecotourism destination. Geography Phou Xieng Thong National Protected Area is located about north of Pakse and covers parts of Salavan's Khongsedone and Lakhonepheng districts and Champasak's Sanasomboun district. Khammouane Limestone National Biodiversity Conservation Area
The Phou Hin Poun National Biodiversity Conservation Area, formerly known as the Khammouane Limestone National Biodiversity Conservation Area, is one of 21 National Biodiversity Conservation Areas of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Located in a limestone tower karst region of the Annamite Range in Khammouane Province, it is home to a number of rare or newly discovered species. National Biodiversity Conservation Areas are not protected by the government of Laos in any meaningful way; the budget for each is about $500. The human population of the NBCA is 29,603. Phou Xang He National Protected Area
Phou Xang He National Protected Area is a national protected area in Savannakhet Province in central Laos. This mostly pristine forested park is home to a large variety of important animal and bird species. The park is home to the Phu Tai and Katang ethnic groups and is an ecotourism destination. Geography Phou Xang He National Protected Area is located about east of Savannakhet, near the village of Phalan and covers parts of Assaphone, Thaphalanxay, Phin, Xepon and Viraboury districts. Protected areas or conservation areas are locations which receive protection because of their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values. There are several kinds of protected areas, which vary by level of protection depending on the enabling laws of each country or the regulations of the international organizations involved. Generally speaking though, protected areas are understood to be those in which human presence or at least the exploitation of natural resources (e.g. firewood, non-timber forest products, water, ...) is limited. The term "protected area" also includes marine protected areas, the boundaries of which will include some area of ocean, and transboundary protected areas that overlap multiple countries which remove the borders inside the area for conservation and economic purposes. Phou Den Din National Protected Area
Phou Den Din National Protected Area or National Biodiversity Conservation Area (NBCA) is a protected area in northern Laos, covering 2,200 km2 in Phongsaly Province. It was designated a National Biodiversity Conservation Area in 1993. The name is also spelt Phou Dene Dinh and Phou Daen Din. The conservation area borders Vietnam, and its terrain is hilly, rising to over 2,000 meters. Among the animals found in the area are elephants, gibbons, macaques, gaurs, bantengs, Asiatic black bears, sun bears, leopards, and tigers. It also has a high density of lesser fish eagles and crested kingfishers. The area is not easily accessible, but can be reached by boat or on foot. Xe Pian National Protected Area
Xe Pian National Park is a national park in Champasak and Attapeu provinces in southern Laos. This forested, hilly park is home to significant wetlands and a great diversity of animal, bird and fish species. It is an ecotourism destination. Geography Xe Pian National Park is about south of Pakse in Pathoumphone and Khong districts of Champasak and Sanamxay District of Attapeu. A large part of the park's boundary follows the border with Cambodia. The park's decreed area is but there have been recent higher estimates of size.
