National Association Of Women In Construction (New Zealand) Excellence Awards
The National Association of Women in Construction (New Zealand) Excellence Awards is an annual set of awards which recognise the achievements of women working in construction and affiliated industries in New Zealand, as well as recognising organisations active in redressing the industry's gender imbalance. The inaugural awards were made in 2015, and have been made every year since with the exception of 2020. The National Association of Women in Construction (New Zealand) is the organising body for the awards. Categories The awards were originally made in 6 categories. In 2023, the category "Outstanding Achievement in Design" will not be awarded; awards will be made in 8 categories, with up to 11 winners. * Helen Tippett Award: named after Helen Tippett, a lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington's School of Architecture. Aotea Centre
The Aotea Centre is a performing arts and events centre in Auckland, New Zealand. Located at the western edge of Aotea Square, off Queen Street, the centre provides a cultural, entertainment and conventions venue space in the heart of the city, and is managed bAuckland Unlimited(which also operates the Auckland Town Hall and The Civic, both in the vicinity of the Square). The origin of its name is Motu Aotea, the Māori name for Great Barrier Island, which is the largest offshore island of New Zealand and approximately 90 km from downtown Auckland. Deborah Cranko
Deborah Cranko is a New Zealand architect. She is a recipient of 2015 National Association of Women in Construction Excellence Award. Biography Cranko studied architecture at Victoria University of Wellington in the 1970s. After graduating she worked at KRTA, King and Dawson and other firms in Wellington until she founded her own architecture practice, Cranko Architects, in 1987. In 1993, Cranko was one of a group of women architects in Wellington who created the exhibition ''Constructive Agenda: 60 years of women in architecture in New Zealand'' to mark 60 years since Merle Greenwood graduated with a bachelor architecture degree. Vanessa Karen Carswell is a New Zealand architect. In 2016 she won the National Association of Women in Construction Outstanding Achievement in Design Award for her work on the restoration of Christchurch's Isaac Theatre Royal. Elisapeta Heta
Elisapeta Hinemoa Heta is a New Zealand Māori architect. She is affiliated to the Ngāti Wai and Waikato Tainui iwi (tribes). She also has Samoan and Tokelauan heritage. Heta was the recipient of a National Association of Women in Construction (New Zealand) Excellence Award in 2018. Helen Tippett
Helen Margaret Tippett (23 March 1933 – 11 February 2004) was a professor of architecture in Australasia. Her career in academia began in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, in 1969, where she taught 'Design and Practice and Management'. She worked as an architect throughout the Middle East. She moved to New Zealand, where she was Dean of Architecture at Victoria University of Wellington from 1980 to 1983 during the architecture school's early years and helped set its tone. alongside the first Dean Gerd Block. Hedda Oosterhoff
Hedda Maria Oosterhoff is an interior acoustic designer working in theatre, opera, schools and commercial settings; she was born in Holland and lives and works in New Zealand. Biography Oosterhoff was born in Holland. Her family moved to New Zealand when she was nine years old, settling in Wellington.
