Deborah Cranko
Deborah Cranko is a New Zealand architect. She is a recipient of 2015 National Association of Women in Construction Excellence Award. Biography Cranko studied architecture at Victoria University of Wellington in the 1970s. After graduating she worked at KRTA, King and Dawson and other firms in Wellington until she founded her own architecture practice, Cranko Architects, in 1987. In 1993, Cranko was one of a group of women architects in Wellington who created the exhibition ''Constructive Agenda: 60 years of women in architecture in New Zealand'' to mark 60 years since Merle Greenwood graduated with a bachelor architecture degree. Cranko has served as deputy chair of the New Zealand Registered Architects Board, and represented the New Zealand Institute of Architects at the initial Building Standards Authority. The National Association of Women in Construction (New Zealand) Excellence Awards is an annual set of awards which recognise the achievements of women working in construction and affiliated industries in New Zealand, as well as recognising organisations active in redressing the industry's gender imbalance. Merle Greenwood
Alice Marion Merle Victoria Greenwood (1900 – 1990) was an Australian-born New Zealand architect. She was the first woman to graduate with a bachelor's degree in architecture from a New Zealand university, and the first woman to be employed as an architect in the New Zealand public service. Biography Greenwood was born in Hobart, Australia, the daughter of an Anglican minister. The family lived in various locations around the Pacific and arrived in New Zealand in 1913, settling in Auckland. She attended a small private girls' school and received a scholarship for daughters of clergy, which enabled her to enrol at university. From 1927 to 1932, she studied architecture full-time at the University of Auckland. Her final year thesis design was for a group of buildings in an Italian style. Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards
The Architecture + Women NZ Dulux Awards is a tri-annual set of awards which recognise the contribution of women to the field of architecture in New Zealand. The awards recognise full bodies of work and community connections. The awards were first made in 2014. In 2020 the awards event was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nominations are invited from the public, and a panel selects finalists in each category. The finalists are invited to an awards dinner where the recipients are announced.
