National Aquatic Centre
The National Aquatic Centre (NAC) ( ga, Ionad Náisiúnta Uisce) is an indoor aquatics facility in Blanchardstown, Fingal, Ireland. The State-owned complex houses a 50-metre swimming pool with an associated diving pool, an aquapark and leisure pool, and a fitness centre. Since opening in March 2003, the centre has hosted the swimming events of the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games, the 2003 European Short Course Swimming Championships and a number of international water polo events. It also hosts the Irish Open Swimming Championships, Irish Senior Water Polo Cup, Irish Open Diving Championships, as well as a number of other national and regional aquatic events. Blanchardstown () is a large outer suburb of Dublin in the modern Counties of Ireland, county of Fingal, Ireland. Located northwest of Dublin city centre, it has developed since the 1960s from a small village to a point where Greater Blanchardstown is the largest urban area in Fingal. Fingal
Fingal ( ; ) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the province of Leinster and is part of the Eastern and Midland Region. It is one of three successor counties to County Dublin, which was disestablished for administrative purposes in 1994. The National Sports Campus ( ga, An Campas Náisiúnta Spórt) is a large site in the western suburbs of Dublin, Ireland, which contains a number of sporting facilities. It is operated by the National Sports Campus Development Authority and is home to a number of sports venues, including the National Indoor Arena, National Aquatic Centre, and National Horse Sport Arena. Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. Aquazone (theme Park)
Aquazone is an indoor waterpark in Blanchardstown, County Dublin. The waterpark is located in the National Aquatic Centre. Rides The park is home to three water slides (Dark Hole, Green Giant & Master Blaster), a surfing-machine (Flow-Rider), a pirate ship (for children under 5), a lazy river and a large pool that generates waves. Legal cases After a lengthy legal process, the Irish government through its company Campus & Stadium Ireland Development (CSID), won a High Court case to repossess the centre due to failure of Dublin Waterworld to pay any rent. CSID also alleged that the NAC was not being properly maintained. This was held by the commercial court not to be the case. Water Slide
A water slide (also referred to as a flume, or water chute) is a type of slide designed for warm-weather or indoor recreational use at water parks. Water slides differ in their riding method and therefore size. Some slides require riders to sit directly on the slide, or on a raft or tube designed to be used with the slide.
