The National Anthem of the Udmurt Republic (, ''Šundy sios džuato palėzez'') is one of the official state symbols of the Udmurt Republic, a member of the Russian Federation. The anthem's music was written by German and Alexander Korepanov (father and his son). The lyrics were written by T. G. Vladikin ( Udmurt version) and A. A. Sheptalin (Russian version). The use of the anthem in official settings is governed by Law of the Udmurt Republic of October 31, 2002 N55-РЗ "On the National anthem of the Udmurt Republic". Udmurtia (russian: Удму́ртия, r=Udmúrtiya, p=ʊˈdmurtʲɪjə; udm, Удмуртия, ''Udmurtija''), or the Udmurt Republic (russian: Удмуртская Республика, udm, Удмурт Республика, Удмурт Элькун, ''Udmurt Respublika'', ''Udmurt Eľkun''), is a federal subject of Russia (a republic) in Eastern Europe, within the Volga Federal District. Udmurt is a Permic language spoken by the Udmurt people who are native to Udmurtia. As a Uralic language, it is distantly related to languages such as Finnish, Estonian, Mansi, Khanty, and Hungarian. The Udmurt language is co-official with Russian within Udmurtia. It is written using the Cyrillic alphabet with the addition of five characters not used in the Russian alphabet: Ӝ/ӝ, Ӟ/ӟ, Ӥ/ӥ, Ӧ/ӧ, and Ӵ/ӵ. The "State Anthem of the Russian Federation" is the national anthem of Russia. Udmurtia is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). The largest ethnic group in the area are the Udmurts, who have vibrant folk song traditions. Musical contests as well as ceremonial and ritual music are an important part of the music of Udmurtia. Every year since 1958 the capital Izhevsk has been hosting a traditional musical festival dedicated to the birthday of Tchaikovsky. Since the breakup of the Soviet Union a revival of a Finno-Ugric cultural identity has taken place among Estonians and Udmurts, which resulted in a pan-Finno-Ugric cultural movement called "Ethnofuturism".
