National Alliance (Uruguay)
The National Alliance (''"Alianza Nacional"'') is a sector of the National Party (Uruguay). Leadership The Alliance's first leader was its founder Jorge Larrañaga, who ran for President of Uruguay in 2004. Larrañaga was beaten by Tabaré Vázquez of the Broad Front. After Larrañaga's death 2021, Senator Carlos Camy was made the faction's new leader. The ideologies of the sector are centrism and christian democracy. Carlos Camy
Carlos Daniel Camy Antognazza (born 9 September 1970) is a Uruguayan politician of the National Party (PN). Education He studied Business Administration in the School of Commerce and Law in the University of the Republic. Political career He is a member of the National Alliance sector in the San José Department. He currently serves as Senator of the Republic, a position he has held since 2005. From 2010 to 2013 he was the director of ANCAP, later he formed the board of the National Corporation for Development. In 2015, after the resignation of Senator Sergio Botana (who took office as Intendant of Cerro Largo), Camy assumes the Senate seat for the entire legislature. National Party (Uruguay)
The National Party ( es, Partido Nacional, PN), also known as the White Party ( es, Partido Blanco), is a major political party in Uruguay. It was founded in 1836 by Manuel Oribe, making it the country's oldest active political party, and together with the Colorado Party, its origin dates back to the time of the creation of the Uruguayan State. Jorge Larrañaga
Jorge Washington Larrañaga Fraga (8 August 1956 – 22 May 2021) was an Uruguayan politician of the National Party (PN) who was Minister of the Interior from 1 March 2020 until his death. He also previously served as Intendant of Paysandú from 1990 to 1999, as well as a Senator between 2000 and 2020. Background Larrañaga grew up and attended school in Paysandú. He studied law at the Universidad de la República and practiced until 1990, specializing in civil and labour law. He took a series of administrative posts in the National Party, culminating in his presidency of the Party's departmental commission in Paysandú (1985–1989). The president of Uruguay ( es, Presidente del Uruguay), officially known as the president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (), is the head of state and head of government of Uruguay. Their rights are determined in the Constitution of Uruguay. Along with the Secretariat of the Presidency, the Council of Ministers and the director of the Office of Planning and Budget, the President is part of the executive branch. Tabaré Ramón Vázquez Rosas (; ''Vázquez Rosas'' locally ; 17 January 19406 December 2020) was a Uruguayan politician who served as the 41st president of Uruguay from 2015 to 2020. He previously served from 2005 to 2010 as the 39th president. A physician (oncologist), he was a member of the leftist Broad Front coalition. Before his first presidential term, Vázquez was president of the Club Progreso team and made two unsuccessful presidential bids in 1994 and 1999. He served as Intendant of Montevideo between 1990 and 1994 shortly before his first presidential campaign. Vázquez was first elected president on 31 October 2004 and took office on 1 March 2005. The Broad Front ( es, Frente Amplio, FA) is a left-wing political coalition from Uruguay. It was the ruling party of Uruguay from 2005 to 2020 and has produced two presidents: José Mujica (2010–2015) and Tabaré Vázquez (2005–2010; 2015–2020). Senate Of Uruguay
The Chamber of Senators of Uruguay (''Cámara de Senadores de Uruguay''), or Senate, is the upper house of the General Assembly of Uruguay (''Asamblea General del Uruguay''). It has 30 members, elected for a five-year term by proportional representation; the Vice-president presides over the chamber's sessions.
