National Advancement Party
The National Advancement Party ( es, Partido de Avanzada Nacional) is a conservatism, conservative political party in Guatemala. It was founded in 1989. In the 1990 and 1995 elections its presidential candidate was Álvaro Arzú who won in 1995, becoming Guatemala's 32nd president (1996–2000). Óscar Berger ran as the party's presidential candidate in the 1999 Guatemalan General Election becoming the runner-up in 1999. After winning PAN’s presidential candidacy in late 2002, he was going to run as the party's presidential candidate in the 2003 Guatemalan General Election. Roberto Arzú García-Granados (born 15 May 1970) is a Guatemalan politician and businessman. Biography Arzú is the firstborn of the former President of Guatemala and mayor of Guatemala City Álvaro Arzú Irigoyen. Grand National Alliance (Guatemala)
The Grand National Alliance ( es, Gran Alianza Nacional, GANA) was a right-wing conservative political party in Guatemala. The acronym "GANA" also spells out the word ''gana'', from the verb ''ganar'', "to win". Formation and 2003 election GANA was created as an electoral alliance to fight the 2003 general election. Álvaro Enrique Arzú Yrigoyen (; 14 March 1946 – 27 April 2018) was a Guatemalan politician and businessman who served as the 32nd President of Guatemala from 14 January 1996 until 14 January 2000. He was elected Mayor of Guatemala City on six occasions: in 1982, when he declined taking office because of a coup d'état; in 1986; in 2003, after serving as president; in 2007; in 2011, and in 2015, for a term that would see him die in office.
