Nathaniel Montgomery
Colonel Nathaniel Montgomery-Moore (1757 – 4 December 1834) of Garvey, Co. Tyrone and Fassaroe Castle, Co. Wicklow was an Irish Member of Parliament. He was the son of General Alexander Montgomery (died 1785) of Ballyleck, Co. Monaghan, M.P. for County Monaghan in 1743–1760 and 1768–1783. Nathaniel was the eldest son of his father's second wife Eleanora Moore, daughter of Acheson Moore of Garvey. His full sisters were Sidney and Maria Montgomery. His father's first wife was Catharine Willoughby, daughter of Colonel Hugh Willoughby of Carrow, County Fermanagh in 1746, by whom he had Nathaniel's three half-brothers Colonel John Montgomery (1747–1797) (M.P. for County Monaghan. Alexander Montgomery (died 1785)
General Alexander Montgomery (17211785) was an Irish MP for County Monaghan, Ireland. His father was John Montgomery (died 1733) of Ballyleck, County Monaghan (M.P. for County Monaghan and second son of Colonel Alexander Montgomery (1667–1722)). John had succeeded his father to the Ballyleck Estate when his elder brother Thomas was disinherited for marrying an Englishwoman. His mother was Mary Coxe, a Maid of Honour to Queen Caroline, wife of King George II of Great Britain. Mary Coxe's father was also the Queen's physician and governor of New Jersey, Dr Daniel Coxe. Montgomery's first cousin was the American Revolution war-hero Major-General Richard Montgomery, a son of the disgraced Thomas. He was a General of Volunteers. John Montgomery (1747–1797)
Colonel John Montgomery (7 September 1747-April 1797) was an Irish soldier and M.P. His father was General Alexander Montgomery (died 1785) of Ballyleck, County Monaghan. His mother was Catharine Willoughby, daughter of Colonel Hugh Willoughby of Carrow, County Fermanagh. On his father's he inherited the Ballyleck estate. He was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the Monaghan Militia when it was formed in 1793. He was appointed High Sheriff of Monaghan for 1777. High Sheriff Of Tyrone
The High Sheriff of Tyrone is the Sovereign's judicial representative in County Tyrone. Initially an office for lifetime, assigned by the Sovereign, the High Sheriff became annually appointed from the Provisions of Oxford in 1258. Besides his judicial importance, he has ceremonial and administrative functions and executes High Court Writs. History The first (High) Shrievalties were established before the Norman Conquest in 1066 and date back to Saxon times. In 1908, an Order in Council made the Lord-Lieutenant the Sovereign's prime representative in a county and reduced the High Sheriff's precedence. Despite however that the office retains his responsibilities for the preservation of law and order in a county.
