Nathaniel Johnson (politician)
Sir Nathaniel Johnson (7 April 1644 – 1 July 1712) was a soldier and a Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle upon Tyne, 1680–1689. He was governor of the Leeward Islands (1686) and the Province of Carolina (1703–1709). Biography Nathaniel Johnson was born on 7 April 1644, near Kibbelsworth, Durham. He joined the British Army in his youth. Eventually, he joined the Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle upon Tyne, 1680–1689. In 1686, he was appointed governor of the Leeward Islands, governing Treves, Saint Kitts, Montserrat, and Antigua. He travelled to the Province of Carolina in 1689, becoming its governor in 1703. While he started his government sanctioned "a blow at the Spanish interest directed against Louisiana and Florida: the Apalachee expedition of 1704". In 1702, while he governed there, he oversaw the defense of Charles Town against an attempted Franco-Spanish assault. In addition, he created the Parish system in this colony. Nate Johnson (tackle)
Nathan Elijah Johnson (June 19, 1920 – August 24, 2004) was an American football tackle. Johnson was born in Dale, Illinois in 1920 and attended Benton High School in Benton, Illinois. He played college football at Illinois. He was selected as the most valuable player on the 1941 Illinois Fighting Illini football team. He played professional football in the All-America Football Conference for the New York Yankees in 1946 and 1947 and the Chicago Rockets/Hornets in 1947 and 1948. He was traded by the Yankees to the Rockets in May 1948 in exchange for fullback Bill Daley. When the AAFC disbanded, he played in the National Football League for the New York Yanks in 1950. He appeared in 65 professional football games, 49 of them as a starter. Nathaniel Johnston M.D. (1627 – 1705) was an English physician, political theorist and antiquary. Life He was eldest son of John Johnston (''d''. 1657), by Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Hobson of Usflete, Yorkshire. His father, a Scot, lived for some time at Reedness in Yorkshire, and became rector of Sutton-on-Derwent. Henry Johnston (Benedictine), Henry Johnston (died 1723) was another son. Jonston proceeded M.D. from King's College, Cambridge, in 1656, having been incorporated at Cambridge M.A. in 1654 with a degree from the University of St Andrews. He was created a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians by the charter of James II, and was admitted on 12 April 1687. He practised at Pontefract, but took up the antiquities and natural history of Yorkshire.
