Nathan Menderson
__NOTOC__ Nathan Menderson (April 25, 1820 – March 31, 1904) was a German-born American business executive, the owner of one of the largest clothing stores in Cincinnati. He is best remembered for being vice president of the Cincinnati Stars baseball team of the National League (baseball), National League, serving as President pro tempore, president ''pro tempore'' in , when Justus Thorner departed in early July. The 1880 Cincinnati Stars season, 1880 Stars finished 21–59, in last place in the eight-team National League. Menderson came to the United States from Bavaria in 1845, and amassed a fortune. He operated his clothing store until retiring in the fall of 1886. He was renowned for his generosity and gentle habits. In the words of his obituary, he was "simple, kindly, loving both his family and his fellow man better than himself." Menderson and his wife had six children. Lichtenfels, Bavaria
Lichtenfels is a town in the Upper Franconian region of Bavaria, Germany, the administrative seat of Lichtenfels district. It is chiefly known as the German "Basket City". Geography It is situated on the upper course of the river Main, about southeast of Coburg, and northeast of Bamberg. The hilly landscape is called ''Gottesgarten am Obermain'' ("God's garden on the upper Main"), referring to the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and Banz Abbey. The Maintal (valley of the Main) goes from East to West. The most important cities of the district are Burgkunstadt, Bad Staffelstein and the district city of Lichtenfels. Galena, Kansas
Galena is a city in Cherokee County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,761. History Although the railroad was built through the territory of Galena in 1871, the community did not start until the discovery of lead there in the spring of 1877. The first post office was established in 1877. The city was originally platted by the ''Galena Mining and Smelting Company'' and was to be known as Cornwall. The city was actually known as Short Creek when first established because of a nearby creek and was known as Bonanza briefly before taking the present name of Galena in 1877, which is named after the lead ore galena found in the area. The city was part of the tri state mining area and had over 30,000 inhabitants. After the mines closed in the 1970s, population decreased.
