Nathalie Krebs
Johanne Nathalie Krebs (August 5, 1895 in Aarhus – January 5, 1978 in Copenhagen) was a Danish potter. She was the sister of the medical doctor and explorer Carl Krebs. Krebs was employed at the Bing & Grøndahl between 1919 and 1929, where she worked with ceramist Gunnar Nylund. In 1929 she and Nylynd founded the company Nylund & Krebs, who rented the potter Patrick Nordström's workshop in Islev, Copenhagen. The company exhibited at Bo in Copenhagen and Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm in the autumn of 1930, as well as in Helsinki. When Nylund was hired as artistic director at Rörstrand in 1931, Krebs founded Saxbo stentøj in Gladsaxe, where she produced serial stoneware. She experimented with copper and iron glaze on simple stoneware shapes and reached results that gave her international reputation. Carl Krebs
Carl Immanuel Krebs (11 February 1889, Aarhus – 15 May 1971, Slagelse) was a Danish medical doctor, humanitarian aid worker and explorer. He was the third child of First Lieutenant (later Major General) Frederik Christian Krebs (1855–1930) and Johanne Margrethe Busch (1858–1911), the brother of ceramicist Nathalie Krebs and the grandson of Dr. Frederik Christian Krebs (1814–1881) a physician, writer on political and social reforms, and editor of the Berlingske Tidende. Carl Krebs graduated from the Metropolitanskole in 1907, and completed his medical studies in 1913. He was then resident in the surgical department of St. Joseph's Hospital. As a student he competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics as part of the Danish team that won the bronze medal in the men's free system team gymnastics event. Gunnar Nylund
Gunnar Nylund (1 May 1904–1997) was a Sweden, Swedish ceramic designer since the 1930s, best known as the artistic director of Rörstrand, and was already a well-established ceramic artist in Denmark first at the Bing & Grøndahl Porcelain factory in Copenhagen 1925–28. Later, in 1928, in collaboration with chemist Nathalie Krebs, he started a ceramics workshop, which became Saxbo in 1930, which kept making his stoneware until 1932. Nylund worked for Rörstrand from 1931–1955, the majority of the time as artistic director. He became well known for his new matte feldspar glazed stoneware in hare's fur and crystal glazes and for his stoneware animal sculptures. Over five decades, Nylund crafted some 30 reliefs and sculptures commissioned for public spaces. Tagea Brandt Rejselegat
The Tagea Brandts ''Rejselegat'' (Travel Scholarship) is a Danish award to women who have made a significant contribution in science, literature or art. The grant, which is given without application, was created and endowed by Danish industrialist Vilhelm Brandt (1854–1921) in 1905 in honor of his wife, Tagea Brandt. It is awarded annually on 17 March, her birthday. The charter of 1922 provides that it shall be given to outstanding women in science, art, music, literature and theater arts (particularly in this case to actresses at the Royal Danish Theatre). The intent is for the awardee to both broaden her horizons while promoting Danish society abroad, and to benefit from vacation and rest time. The first scholarships were given in 1924; the first time the amount was DKK 10.000, in 1958 it was increased to DKK 15.000, in 1967 to 25.000, later to 50,000, and currently it is DKK 75.000, which usually is given to 2-3 women annually. Prince Eugen Medal
The Prince Eugen Medal ( sv, Prins Eugen-medaljen) is a medal conferred by the King of Sweden for "outstanding artistic achievement". The medal was established in 1945 by the then King of Sweden, Gustaf V, in connection with the eightieth birthday of his brother Prince Eugen who was a noted painter and art collector.
