Natalie Braswell
Natalie A. Braswell is an American lawyer and public servant who served as Connecticut State Comptroller, one of the state's six constitutional officers and its chief fiscal guardian. Braswell was Connecticut's first African-American comptroller. She was appointed to fill the year-long unexpired term of Kevin Lembo. Life and career Braswell attended the University of Connecticut, from which she received a BA in political science in 2000, an MPA in public administration in 2002, and a JD in 2007. She has taught legal practice as an adjunct professor at UConn School of Law and served on the school's foundation board and its diversity, equity, and belonging committee. She served as vice president of the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association from 2007 to 2011. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association. The State Comptroller is the chief fiscal guardian of the State of Connecticut. The duties and responsibilities of the state comptroller include, among other things, overseeing state accounting, preparing state financial reports, paying and administering benefits to state employees, settling demands against the state that do not first have to be approved or adjusted by the General Assembly, administering miscellaneous appropriations for employee taxes, insurance, and health services, and administering grants to police, firefighters, and municipalities. Comptrollers in Connecticut are elected to a term of four years, their election taking place in the same cycle as gubernatorial elections. Bloomfield, Connecticut
Bloomfield is a suburb of Hartford in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The town's population was 21,535 at the 2020 census. Bloomfield is best known as the headquarters of healthcare services company Cigna. History Originally land of the Poquonock Native Americans, the area was first settled in 1660 as part of Windsor, organized as the Parish of Wintonbury in 1736. Wintonbury comes from three names from neighboring towns Windsor, Farmington, and Simsbury. It was finally incorporated as the town of Bloomfield by the Connecticut General Assembly on May 28, 1835. Initially, the town's local economy was agriculturally based, mostly in shade tobacco, remaining as such until it developed as a postwar suburb of Hartford starting in the 1950s.
