Nat Whittaker
Nathan Whittaker (3 February 1863 — 1922) was an English professional footballer, referee, secretary and manager. Playing career Whittaker played for local club Accrington in the Football League, before moving to London for a teaching role. Whilst in London, Whittaker played for Tottenham Hotspur. Refereeing and secretarial career Following his playing career, Whittaker moved into a secretarial role in football, sitting on the councils for The Football Association, the Referees' Association, the London Football Association and the Southern Football League. Alongside his secretarial commitments, Whittaker was also a referee, refereeing games in the Football League and the Southern League. The biggest distinction in Whittaker's career came on 20 April 1907, when he refereed in the 1907 FA Cup Final, in a game that saw "fouls rather plentiful". Church, Lancashire
Church is a large village in Hyndburn, Lancashire, England, situated a mile west of Accrington. The village has a population of 5,186 at the 2011 Census, an increase from 3,990 according to the 2001 census. History and geography Church was once a township in the ancient parish of Whalley, covering an area along the eastern side of Hyndburn Brook. Tinker Brook, up to Foxhill Bank, formed the boundary with Oswaldtwistle in the south and Bottom Syke from Dunkenhalgh, the boundary with Clayton-le-Moors to the north. This became a civil parish in 1866. The parish church is the medieval Church of St James. The tower dates to the late medieval era, and was damaged by a fire in 1983. Spen Whittaker
Spencer Whittaker (February 1871 – 16 April 1910) was an English footballer, manager and secretary. Playing career Whittaker played for hometown club Oswaldtwistle Rovers, before retiring from playing, taking up the chairman and secretary role at the club. Managerial career Whittaker was appointed manager of Burnley in 1903. His reign as Burnley manager was to come to a tragic end in April 1910. Whittaker was on his way to London by train to register the signing of a new player. When the train stopped in Crewe, it was reported that a man had fallen from a carriage some distance outside the town. When the body was discovered it was found to be that of Whittaker.
