Nasser Al-Awlaki
Nasser al-Awlaki ( ar, ناصر العولقي; 1946 – 28 September 2021) was a Yemeni scholar and politician. He was the father of Anwar and grandfather of Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, who were killed in separate U.S. drone strikes. Nasser's granddaughter's Nawar al-Awlaki was also killed in a U.S. raid in Yemen in 2017, the Raid on Yakla. Biography He was a Fulbright Scholar and earned a master's degree in agricultural economics at New Mexico State University in 1971. He received a doctorate at the University of Nebraska, and worked at the University of Minnesota from 1975 to 1977. Nasser al-Awlaki served as Agriculture Minister of Yemen in Ali Abdullah Saleh's government. He was also President of Sana'a University. Yemen's prime minister from 2007 to 2011, Ali Mohammed Mujur, was a relative. Shabwa Governorate
Shabwah ( ar, شَبْوَة, Šabwa) is a governorate (province) of Yemen. Its main town is Ataq. During the Yemeni Civil War in 2015, the province became a battleground. The battle, known as the Shabwah Campaign, ended on August 15, 2015, after forces loyal to the government of Abd Rabbah Mansour Hadi defeated Houthi rebels. The prime minister of the Republic of Yemen is the head of government of Yemen. Under the Constitution of Yemen, the prime minister is appointed by the president, and the former, as well as their Cabinet, must enjoy confidence from the House of Representatives. The current prime minister of Yemen is Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed. He took office on 18 October 2018, after President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi removed his predecessor, pro-Houthi Ahmed Obeid bin Dagher, from office. The Raid on Yakla was a United States/United Arab Emirates military operation carried out on January 29, 2017 in al-Ghayil, a village in the Yakla area of the Al Bayda Governorate of central Yemen, during the Yemeni Civil War (2014–present). Authorized by US President Donald Trump, its ostensible goal was to gather intelligence on al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula but also to target the group's leader, Qasim al-Raymi. The operation was the first high-level raid of the Trump administration. United States Central Command (CENTCOM) was involved with the Special Operations Command, which oversees US special forces operations, and the CIA. Between 10 and 30 civilians (including Nawar al-Awlaki, the eight-year-old American daughter of the deceased alleged al-Qaeda preacher Anwar al-Awlaki) were killed in the raid along with up to 14 al-Qaeda fighters, as well as American Navy SEAL William Owens.
