Nashville Roller Derby is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded as Nashville Rollergirls, the league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and structure The league was founded in 2006 as Nashville Rollergirls and became a member of the WFTDA in 2008. In the league's early years games were held at the Tennessee State Fairground Sports Arena, where by 2010 they were averaging 1,200 fans at games, before moving to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. In early 2019, the league announced it had rebranded as Nashville Roller Derby. Nashville Roller Derby has two travel teams. The Music City All Stars are the premier travel team featuring the top skaters of the league. The Music City Brawl Stars are the B-team showcasing up-and-coming skaters. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 1 (WFTDA Division 1) is the highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby. Organisation The division consists of the 36 highest-ranked members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association, based on performance over the previous year, who compete across three Playoff tournaments with 12 teams at each Playoff. Historically, the WFTDA instead operated four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. At the start of 2013, these were redivided into three divisions, each operating worldwide. However, foreseeing continued growth in membership, the WFTDA stated that future developments were likely to include new regional structures alongside the divisional system. South Central Region (WFTDA)
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association's South Central Region was formed in 2008 when WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. For 2011, the region was expanded, taking in leagues from Nebraska and New Mexico. WFTDA has now moved away from the Big 5 WFTDA Championships qualification tournament structure, last competed in 2012. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Sacramento Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Sacramento, California. Originally two separate leagues founded in 2006, Sac City Rollers and Sacred City Derby Girls, who mutually announced a pending merger in late 2017, and then on January 1, 2018, announced a rebrand of the merged organization as Sacramento Roller Derby.
