Nashoba, Oklahoma
Nashoba is an unincorporated community in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, United States, 11 miles southeast of Tuskahoma. A United States Post Office opened at Nashoba, Indian Territory on September 13, 1886. The community took its name from Nashoba County, Choctaw Nation. The county took its name from ''nashoba'', the word in the Choctaw language for “wolf”, and the county was often referred to as Wolf County. The Nashoba Community was an experimental project of Frances "Fanny" Wright, initiated in 1825 to educate and emancipate slaves. It was located in a 2,000-acre (8 km²) woodland on the side of present-day Germantown, Tennessee, a Memphis suburb, along the Wolf River. It was a small-scale test of her full-compensation emancipation plan in which no slaveholders would lose money for emancipating slaves. Instead, Wright proposed that, through a system of unified labor, the slaves would buy their freedom and then be transported to Haiti or the settlements which would become Liberia.Bederman, Gail. Nashoba County was a political subdivision of the Choctaw Nation of Indian Territory. The county formed part of the Nation’s Apukshunnubbee District, or Second District, one of three administrative super-regions in the Nation. This territory was later made part of the state of Oklahoma. History Nashoba County, Choctaw Nation was named for Neshoba County, Mississippi, where some of the Choctaw had historically lived. ''Nashoba'' is the Choctaw word for “wolf.” Although occasionally known as Wolf County, the county was generally referred to by its Choctaw name. The Nashoba Valley refers to an area in Northwestern Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Middlesex and Northeastern Worcester County, Massachusetts, Worcester Counties, Massachusetts, located around the interchange of Interstate 495 (Massachusetts), Interstate 495 and Massachusetts Route 2. At one point, Littleton, Massachusetts, was known as the Praying Indian town of Nashoba. The hill that today is Nashoba Valley Ski Area is called Nashoba Hill. Nashoba Valley Ski Area
Nashoba Valley Ski Area is a small ski area in Westford, Massachusetts, United States, located at 79 Powers Road. It borders on Littleton, Massachusetts. Operating each winter since its opening in 1964, it has 17 trails, including a variety of terrain. There is also a terrain park that is one of the best in Massachusetts. The area also features a tubing park with 16 runs served by two Poma handle tows and a Sun-Kid Conveyor; this is on the same property, but has a separate entrance on Massachusetts Route 119, Route 119 in Littleton, Massachusetts. Lifts The area is served by 4 chairlifts, 4 conveyor lifts, and 3 rope tows. Currently the top is only accessible by the chairlifts, but used to be served by a ski tow, rope tow powered by an old school bus and a T-Bar. All intermediate and advanced terrain is accessible from any chairlift. The beginner area, which has the easiest trails, goes only about a quarter of the way up the hill.
