Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. Wolfe (provincial Electoral District)
Wolfe was a former provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1890 Quebec general election, 1890 election from part of Richmond-Wolfe electoral district. Its final election was in 1970 Quebec general election, 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 Quebec general election, 1973 election and its successor electoral districts were Frontenac (provincial electoral district), Frontenac, Mégantic-Compton and Richmond (Quebec provincial electoral district), Richmond. Wolfe was named in honour of General James Wolfe, who led the English side in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. Jérôme-Adolphe Chicoyne
Jérôme-Adolphe Chicoyne (August 22, 1844 – September 30, 1910) was a lawyer, journalist and political figure in Quebec. He represented Wolfe in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1892 to 1904 as a Conservative. He was born in Saint-Pie, Canada East, the son of Jérôme Chicoine and Dorothée Deslandes, dit Champigny, and was adopted by his godfather Joseph Charbonneau at the age of three. Chicoyne was educated at the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1868 and set up practice in Saint-Hyacinthe. Earlier the same year, he had married Marie-Rose-Caroline Perrault. In 1872, he left the practice of law to become an immigration agent for Quebec. Chicoyne contributed to the ''Courrier de Saint-Hyacinthe'' and ''L'Opinion publique''. He established the newspaper ''La Colonisation'' in Sherbrooke in 1886 and then was the owner and editor of the ''Pionnier de Sherbrooke'' from 1888 to 1901.
