Naoko Shibusawa
Naoko Shibusawa is an Associate Professor of History and an Associate Professor of American Studies at Brown University. Biography Shibusawa was born in Japan in 1964. She moved to the United States in her youth, growing up in New York, Texas and California. She received a B.A. in History from U.C. Berkeley in 1987. She received a Northwestern University Graduate Fellowship in 1989, completing an M.A. in History from Northwestern University in 1993. During the pursuit of a Ph.D at Northwestern, Shibusawa received the Center for International and Comparative Studies Graduate Grant and a fellowship from Chicago chapter of the National Association of Japan-America Societies. She received a Ph.D. in History from Northwestern in 1998, with a major focus in American history in the 20th century and a minor focus in Modern Japan from 1850 to the present. Society For Historians Of American Foreign Relations
The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) was founded in order to “promote excellence in research and teaching of American foreign relations history and to facilitate professional collaboration among scholars and students in this field around the world.” It is the preeminent organization in its field, with nearly 1,300 current members in over forty countries. It hosts an annual conference, and publishes the quarterly ''Diplomatic History''. It also publishes a triennial newsletter, ''Passport''. Taro Yashima
was a Japanese-American artist and children's book author. He immigrated to the United States in 1939 and assisted the U.S. war effort. Early life Iwamatsu was born September 21, 1908, in Nejime, Kimotsuki District, Kagoshima, and raised there on the southern coast of Kyushu. His father was a country doctor who collected oriental art and encouraged art in his son. John David Provoo
John David Provoo (August 6, 1917 – August 28, 2001) was United States Army staff sergeant and practicing Buddhist who was convicted of treason for his conduct as a Japanese prisoner of war during World War II. His conviction was later overturned on a technicality, and he became a Buddhist priest. Childhood Provoo was born in San Francisco, California, on August 6, 1917. He began to practise Buddhism as a teenager, and became a strict adherent. His brother George recalled how he would stand at the kitchen sink saving ants from drowning, in accordance with the Buddhist principle of the sanctity of life. He also began studying the Japanese language around that time, with a Buddhist priest as his teacher. World War II
World War II or the Second World War, often abbreviated as WWII or WW2, was a world war that lasted from 1939 to 1945.
