Nannienus
Nannienus (also Nannenus, or Naniemus, Nanninus), ( 350 AD), was a late antiquity, late Roman military commander in the Western Roman Empire. In 370, as ''Comes rei militaris'' under the Emperor Valentinian I he fought the Saxons. In 378, under the Emperor Gratian, together with the ''comes domesticorum'' Mallobaudes, he defeated the Lentienses, a group of Alamanni, at the Battle of Argentovaria. It is suggested that at this time he may have been ''comes utriusque Germaniae'', since he was of the same rank as Mallobaudes. It is also conjectured that he was the ''magister militum'' Nanninus who served the Emperor Magnus Maximus, defeated the Franks, and served as guardian of Magnus' son Victor (emperor), Flavius Victor. Battle Of Argentovaria
The Battle of Argentovaria or Battle of Argentaria was fought in May 378 between the Western Roman Empire and the invading army of the Lentienses, a branch of the Alemanni, at Argentovaria (near Colmar, France). The Alemanni were overwhelmed by the Roman legionaries, though stood their ground bravely. Only 9,000 escaped from the field and Priarius, king of the Lentienses, was slain during the battle. The Lentienses disappear from the historical record following this defeat. Emperor Gratian, who had given the command of the army for the battle to Nannienus and Mallobaudes, gained the title of ''Alemannicus Maximus''.
