Nanjai Uthukuli Canal
Nanjai Uthukuli Canal is an irrigation canal that runs in the southern part of Erode city in Tamil Nadu, India. This canal gets its source of water from Perumpallam Anicut, near Surampatti. This canal irrigates around of farm land by its journey through the areas of Kasipalayam, Sastri Nagar, Moolapalayam, Nochikattuvalasu, Karukkampalayam, Subbarayavalasu, Lakkapuram, 46 Pudur, Muthugoundenpalayam, Chinniyampalayam, and Nanjai Uthukuli. This canal terminates its journey near the wetland in the north of Savadipalayam Pudur. Impact of urbanization With the higher level of urbanization in Erode, the canal is severely affected by solid wastes and sewerage from the surrounding residential areas. Accumulation of plastic waste and garbage is the major threat faced by the water channel, causing it to be dry most of the year. Surampatti is a neighbourhood locality in the City of Erode. As of 2011, the town had a population of 41,782. And presently, this has been converted as the Zonal Headquarters for one of the four zones of Erode Municipal Corporation, combining 15 Wards. Until 2010, it was an independent Municipal Administrative body with a population of about 55,000 and in 2011, it has been officially combined with the Integrated Erode Municipal Corporation. Erode Corporation is a civic administrative body that governs the City of Erode, India. The Corporation consists of a legislative body, headed by the City Mayor and an executive body headed by the Corporation Commissioner. The Corporation's headquarters is in the Municipal Corporation Building, Erode, near Panneer selvam Park.
