Gujarati Cinema
Gujarati cinema, also known as Gollywood or Dhollywood, is the Gujarati language film industry. It is one of the major regional and vernacular film industries of the cinema of India, having produced more than one thousand films since its inception. During the silent film era, many individuals in the industry were Gujarati people, Gujaratis. The language-associated industry dates back to 1932, when the first Gujarati talkie, ''Narsinh Mehta (1932 film), Narsinh Mehta'', was released. Until the independence of India in 1947, only twelve Gujarati films were produced. There was a spurt in film production in the 1940s focused on saint, sati or dacoit stories as well as Hindu mythological film, mythology and folktales. In the 1950s–1960s, the trend continued with the addition of films on literary works. Arvind Pandya
Arvind Pandya (21 March 1923 – 22 July 1980) was an Indian actor. In his career spanning 35 years, he acted in more than one hundred films including 73 Gujarati films. He also worked in Hindi films and Gujarati theatre. Early life Pandya was born on 21 March 1923 in Bhadran. He spent his childhood in Khambhat and Baroda (now Vadodara). His father Ganpatrao was an executive manager in Mandvi branch of Bank of Baroda. His mother's name was Anandiben. He participated in the Indian independence movement and in 1942 Quit India movement. Career Pandya went to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1937 and joined St. Xavier's College where he studied BA in Sanskrit. He studied music at Devdhar Classes and later under Pandharinath Kolhapure. After listening to him at an event at St. Xavier's College, he was selected as a playback singer in ''Mansarovar'' (1946) by S. N. 9th National Film Awards
The 9th National Film Awards, then known as State Awards for Films, presented by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in 1961. The awards were announced on 5 April 1962 and were presented on 21 April at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, by then Vice-President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Selection process The Central Committee for State Awards for Films for the year was headed by politician and author R. R. Diwakar. To select films for the awards, the committee viewed "27 feature films, five children's films, seven documentaries and six educational films and a few filmstrips" between 19 March and 2 April 1962. Avinash Vyas
Avinash Vyas was an Indian music composer, lyricist and singer of Gujarati films who composed music for over 190 Gujarati films. He was a winner of Gujarat State Film award for the best lyricist and best music 25 times. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1970 with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Biography Avinash Vyas was born in the Indian state of Gujarat on 21 July 1912 and had his initial music training under Ustad Allauddin Khan. His career started with HMV for their ''Young India'' label where he cut his first gramophone record in 1940 and debuted as a film music composer in with the Gujarati film, Mahasati Ansuya in 1943, partnering the renowned musician, Ustad Alla Rakha. Two more films were released the next year, Krishna Bhakta Bodana and Laheri Badmash but both were not successful. His first major hit came in 1948 with Gunsundari, a bilingual in Gujarati and Hindi.
