Nancy Unger

	Nancy Unger Nancy C. Unger is an American history professor and author. She chairs the history department at Santa Clara University. She has written books on American women in the environmental movement, Bob La Follette, and Belle La Follette. She was born in Seattle and graduated from Gonzaga University in 1978. She received her masters and Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. She has appeared on C-Span several times. She discussed Bob La Follette on PBS North Carolina. Unger suggested Belle La Follette appear on a newly designed $10 bill. He represented Wisconsin in both chambers of Congress and served as the 20th Governor of Wisconsin. A Republican for most of his life, he ran for president of the United States as the nominee of his own Progressive Party in the 1924 presidential election. Historian John D. Buenker describes La Follette as "the most celebrated figure in Wisconsin history". Born and raised in Wisconsin, La Follette won election as the Dane County District Attorney in 1880. Four years later, he was elected to the House of Representatives, where he was friendly with party leaders like William McKinley.
