Nancy Schreiber
Nancy Schreiber (born June 27, 1949) is an American cinematographer known for her work on ''Chain of Desire'', ''Dead Beat'', ''The Celluloid Closet'', '' November'', and ''The Nines''. Early life and education Nancy Schreiber was born on June 27, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. Her mother was a docent and art dealer. Although her father died when she was young, he sparked Schreiber's interest in film as he was into photography, mainly using 8mm and 16mm film. In an interview, Schreiber said that ''Lawrence of Arabia'' had the biggest influence on her when she was younger. Schreiber studied at the University of Michigan, graduating with a dual degree in Psychology and History of art. During her time at university, she took some photography classes and ran the film society's theatre in Ann Arbor. Sven Vilhem Nykvist (; 3 December 1922 – 20 September 2006) was a Swedes, Swedish cinematographer. He worked on over 120 films, but is known especially for his work with director Ingmar Bergman. The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), founded in Hollywood in 1919, is a cultural, educational, and professional organization that is neither a labor union nor a guild. The society was organized to advance the science and art of cinematography and gather a wide range of cinematographers to discuss techniques and ideas and to advocate for motion pictures as a type of art form. In film and television crews, the gaffer or chief lighting technician is the head electrician, responsible for the execution (and sometimes the design) of the lighting plan for a production. The gaffer's assistant is the '' best boy electric''. Etymology There are several possible explanations for the history of the term Gaffer. The National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET-CWA) is a labor union representing employees in television, radio, film, and media production. A division of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), NABET represents about 12,000 workers organized into about 35 local unions ("locals"). The union was first organized in 1934 as the Association of Technical Employees (ATE), at first covering employees involved in network television and radio; the union was created by NBC as a way to prevent its own workers from joining the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
