Namkeen
''Namkeen'' (), is a 1982 Hindi-language social drama film, directed by Gulzar, it stars Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Shabana Azmi, Waheeda Rehman in the lead role. It was yet another film by Gulzar made on some very sensitive but untouched aspects of Indian society especially in rural areas. The story ''Akal Basant'' was by Samaresh Basu on whose story, Gulzar had previously made ''Kitaab'' (1977). The film won the National Film Awards in 1983 for Best Audiography for Essabhai M. Suratwala. At the 30th Filmfare Awards, ''Namkeen'' won Best Story and Best Art Direction, while Waheeda Rehman and Kiran Vairale both received Best Supporting Actress nominations for their performances in the film. 30th Filmfare Awards
The 30th Filmfare Awards were held on 25 September 1983. ''Prem Rog'' led the ceremony with 12 nominations, followed by ''Nikaah'' with 11 nominations, and ''Bazaar'' and ''Shakti'' with 7 nominations each. Samaresh Basu
Samaresh Basu (11 December 1924 – 12 March 1988) was a writer in modern Bengali literature, known for his versatility and vast range of themes. He wrote under the pen name ''Kalkut''. Basu was awarded the 1980 Sahitya Akademi Award in Bengali, by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, for his novel, ''Shamba''. He won the 1983 Filmfare Awards for Best Story for ''Namkeen''. Biography Basu was born on 11 December, 1924 in Bikrampur, Dhaka (present day Bangladesh). He married Gauri Basu in 1942. In his early days, he worked at a factory at Icchapore, West Bengal. He was imprisoned between 1940 to 1950 for his involvement in trade unions and Communist party. Waheeda Rehman
Waheeda Rehman (born 3 February 1938) is an Indian actress and dancer. Sampooran Singh Kalra (born 18 August 1934), known professionally as Gulzar, is an Indian Urdu poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, and film director known for his works in Hindi cinema. Kishore Kumar (born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly (); 4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) was an Indian playback singer and actor. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest, most influential and dynamic singers in the history of Indian music. He was one of the most popular singers in the Indian subcontinent, notable for his yodeling and ability to sing songs in different voices. He used to sing in different genres but some of his rare compositions, considered classics, were lost in time.
