''Name the Woman'' is a 1934 American mystery drama film directed by Albert S. Rogell and starring Richard Cromwell, Arline Judge and Rita La Roy.Dick p.238 It is not a remake of the studio's 1928 silent film of the same name, although ''Variety'' wrongly reported this at the time. Synopsis A novice reporter tries to get his break by investigating the murder of the district attorney. Allan Sears
Allan Sears (March 9, 1887 – August 18, 1942) was an American film actor who played leading roles in the 1910s and 1920s before transitioning into character roles in the 1930s. He was noted for his tall stature. Biography Sears was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Harry Sears and Alice Gould. He started acting on camera around 1914, after getting his start on the stage in theater and as an opera singer. In Hollywood, appeared in a number of D. W. Griffith's films alongside actress Mary Miles Minter. He took some time away from Hollywood to recuperate from an illness in the early 1920s, returning a few years later to play character roles. He died in Los Angeles in 1942, and was survived by his daughter, Zaida. Fred Walton (July 26, 1865 – December 28, 1936) was an English stage actor who immigrated to the United States in the early part of the 20th century and became a character actor and director in American silent and early sound films. Life and career Born on 26 July 1865 in Brighton, England, he appeared on the stage in England prior to moving to the United States. In 1905 he appeared in a production of ''The Babes and the Baron'', which ran at the Theatre Royal in Birmingham. The following year, the play was produced by Lee and J.J. Shubert at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, where Walton reprised his role as The Toy Soldier. He remained in the United States, and in 1910 and 1911 he starred in several film shorts, for the Selig Polyscope Company in Chicago and for the Powers Moving Picture Company, a New York studio that in 1912 merged with Independent Moving Pictures. George Humbert
George Humbert (born Umberto Gianni; July 29, 1880 – May 8, 1963) was an Italian-born American actor who appeared in more than 100 films between 1918 and the 1950s. He emigrated to the United States as a steerage passenger on board the Italian steamer ''Sannio'', which sailed from Genoa, Italy and arrived at the Port of New York in June 1907; he was examined by the U.S. immigration service on Ellis Island and allowed to enter the United States legally. He became a United States citizen in 1933. Humbert was a nephew of Italian actor Ernesto Rossi, and he served as an ensign in the Royal Italian Navy. The Duke of Abruzzi, after hearing Humbert perform, recommended that he enter the Florence Music Conservatory. After Humbert performed in opera in Italy, he joined the San Carlo Opera Company in the United States. Wallis Hensman Clark (2 March 1882 – 14 February 1961) was an English stage and film actor. Biography Clark was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of William Wallis Clark (1854 - 1930), an engineer. Prior to acting, Clark was an engineer. He began his stage career in Margate, Kent, in 1908. He moved to the United States and acted in numerous plays on the stage, including at the Little Theatre in Philadelphia, for years before moving on to the screen in 1932. He appeared in supporting roles in 136 films between 1931 and 1954. Five of these films won Best Picture: ''It Happened One Night'' (1934), ''Mutiny on the Bounty'' (1935), ''The Great Ziegfeld'' (1936), '' You Can't Take It with You'' (1938), and '' Gone with the Wind'' (1939).
