Nalliah Kumaraguruparan
Nalliah Kumaraguruparan ( ta, நல்லையா குமரகுருபரன்; si, නල්ලය්යා කුමරගුරුපරන්) is a Sri Lankan Tamil accountant, politician and former provincial councillor. He is leader of the Democratic National Front. Career Kumaraguruparan was one of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress's (ACTC) candidates in Jaffna District at the 1989 parliamentary election but the ACTC failed to win any seats in Parliament. He contested the 1994 parliamentary election as part of an independent group in Colombo District but the group failed to win any seats in Parliament. Kumaraguruparan was elected general-secretary of the ACTC in January 2000. He was later senior deputy president of the party. Kumaraguruparan joined the Western People's Front (WPF) in May 2004. The ''Tamil Times'' was an English language British monthly news magazine focusing on Sri Lankan Tamil issues. Founded in 1981, the magazine was published from Sutton and distributed worldwide to the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora. It ceased publication in 2006. History The ''Tamil Times'' was founded in 1981 by N. S. Kandiah, S. Navaratnam, P. Ragunathan, P. Rajanayagam, C. J. T. Thamotheram and R. Thayaparan. Thamotheram was managing director of the magazine as well as its editor. The first edition of the paper was published in October 1981. The magazine's publisher, Tamil Times Limited, was incorporated on 10 November 1981. The magazine was later edited by Rajanayagam. March 2014 Sri Lankan Provincial Council Elections
Provincial council elections were held in Sri Lanka on 29 March 2014 to elect 159 members to two of the nine provincial councils in the country. 5.9 million Sri Lankans were eligible to vote in the election. Elections to a third provincial council (Uva) were held on 20 September. Elections to the remaining six provincial councils were not due as they had their last election in 2012 or 2013. The United People's Freedom Alliance's domination of Sri Lankan elections continued as expected. It retained control of both Southern Provincial Council and Western Provincial Council. However, the UPFA recorded a loss of votes in both provinces as did the main opposition party, the United National Party, in the Western Province. 2010 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 8 and 20 April 2010, to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 14th Parliament. 14,088,500 Sri Lankans were eligible to vote in the election at 11,102 polling stations. It was the first general election held in Sri Lanka following the conclusion of the civil war which lasted 26 years. The main parties contesting in the election were the party of Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse, the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), the main opposition United National Front (UNF) and the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) of Sarath Fonseka. 2004 Sri Lankan Provincial Council Elections
The 2004 Sri Lankan provincial council election was held on 24 April 2004 and 10 July 2004 to elect members to seven provincial councils in Sri Lanka. No election was held in the eighth province, North Eastern, which had been governed directly by the national government since March 1990. The United People's Freedom Alliance, which was in power nationally, won all seven provinces.
