Nakhon Pathom Railway Station
Nakhon Pathom railway station is a railway station located in Phra Pathom Chedi subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Pathom district, and is located from Thon Buri railway station. It is a class 1 railway station and is the main railway station of Nakhon Pathom province. The station is not far from Phra Pathom Chedi which is a famous landmark of the province. The station opened in June 1903 as part of the first phase of the Southern Line construction between Thon Buri Station to Phetchaburi Station and was originally named "Phra Pathom" station. During the 2011 Thailand floods, Nakhon Pathom Station was the terminus for most train services instead of Bangkok railway station as some sections between Nakhon Pathom and Bangkok were flooded. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) ( th, การรถไฟแห่งประเทศไทย, abbrev. รฟท., ) is the state-owned rail operator under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport in Thailand. History The SRT was founded as the Royal State Railways of Siam (RSR) in 1890. Mueang Nakhon Pathom District
Mueang Nakhon Pathom ( th, เมืองนครปฐม, ) is the capital district ('' Amphoe Mueang'') of Nakhon Pathom province, central Thailand. History The district was created in 1895 named Phra Pathom Chedi District, under control of ''Mueang'' Nakhon Chai Si, Monthon Nakhon Chai Si. In 1898 the government moved the capital city of the monthon and the province from Nakhon Chai Si to Phra Pathom Chedi District. King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) changed the district name to Mueang Nakhon Pathom in 1913. Thon Buri Railway Station
Thon Buri railway station ( th, สถานีรถไฟธนบุรี) formerly known as Bangkok Noi railway station (สถานีรถไฟบางกอกน้อย), is a railway station in Siriraj Sub-district, Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok. It is a class 1 railway station and is the current terminus of the Thon Buri Branch Line. Near the station is a railway depot that keeps five functional steam locomotives operable for four special occasions. Thon Buri station is the only station in Bangkok that has railway semaphore signals (although unused) still present on the station grounds. Phra Pathommachedi or Phra Pathom Chedi ( th, พระปฐมเจดีย์) is a Buddhist stupa in Thailand. The stupa is located in the Wat Phra Pathommachedi Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan ( th, วัดพระปฐมเจดีย์ราชวรมหาวิหาร), a temple in the town center of Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand. Phra Pathommachedi is the tallest stupa in the world. The top of its spire reaches 120.45 meters, with the base circumference of 235.50 meters. The name Phra Pathommachedi means the first holy stupa, given by king Mongkut. 2011 Thailand Floods
Severe flooding occurred during the 2011 monsoon season in Thailand. The flooding began at the end of July triggered by the landfall of Tropical Storm Nock-ten. These floods soon spread through the provinces of northern, northeastern, and central Thailand along the Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins. In October floodwaters reached the mouth of the Chao Phraya and inundated parts of the capital city of Bangkok. Flooding persisted in some areas until mid-January 2012, and resulted in a total of 815 deaths (with three missing) and 13.6 million people affected. Sixty-five of Thailand's 76 provinces were declared flood disaster zones, and over of farmland was damaged. The Thaksin Express ( th, รถด่วนพิเศษทักษิณ) is an express train run by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) between Bangkok and Su-ngai Kolok, a border town in Narathiwat Province and the end of the southern rail line. ''Thaksin'' is a Thai word for 'south' (from the Sanskrit word ''dakshin''), thus this train is referred to as the "Southern Express". The train's passenger cars include 1st- and 2nd-class air conditioned sleepers, 2nd-class fan sleepers, 2nd-class fan seating coaches, 3rd class air conditioned and fan seating coaches, and a dining car. The ''International Express'' ( th, รถด่วนพิเศษระหว่างประเทศ; ms, Ekspres Antarbangsa) is an express train between Bangkok, Thailand and Padang Besar, Malaysia.
