Naked Among Wolves (novel)
''Naked Among Wolves'' (german: Nackt unter Wölfen) is a novel by the East German author Bruno Apitz. The novel was first published in 1958 and tells the story of prisoners in the Buchenwald concentration camp who risk their lives to hide a young Polish-Jewish boy. Apitz himself had been imprisoned in Buchenwald as a communist from 1937 to 1945. The boy, whose name in the novel is Stefan Cyliak, was revealed to be based on Stefan Jerzy Zweig after publication of the novel. The book has since been translated into 30 languages and published in 28 countries. Buchenwald Resistance
The Buchenwald Resistance was a resistance group of prisoners at Buchenwald concentration camp. It involved Communists, Social Democrats, and people affiliated with other political parties, unaffiliated people, and both Jews and Christians. Because Buchenwald prisoners came from a number of countries, the Resistance was also international. Members tried to sabotage Nazi efforts where they could, worked to save the lives of child inmates, and in the last days of the camp, with many Nazis fleeing the approaching allied troops, tried to gain control of the camp itself. After liberation, the prisoners documented their experiences on paper and formed an international committee to look after the welfare of survivors. Philipp Kadelbach
Philipp Kadelbach (born 9 September 1974, Frankfurt am Main) is a German film and television director. In discussing Kadelbach, actor Jürgen Schornagel stated "He's in the top five of the 116 directors I've worked with. He helps young people and experienced actors - and he lets us make mistakes". Career Philipp Kadelbach attended the Pittsburgh Filmmakers' School of Film, Photography, and Digital Media and at the same time worked for the German local television channel WQED. From 1995 onwards he worked as the head of Avid Digital Editing at Neue Sentimental Film, a Frankfurt advertising agency, followed by the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. Naked Among Wolves (german: Nackt unter Wölfen) is a 2015 German drama film directed by Philipp Kadelbach. It is based on the 1958 novel of the same name by Bruno Apitz, which was published in 1958 by the East German Publishing house. It was created for television, it is the third film version of the literary text after the 1963 version. Plot The film takes place in the years 1944 and 1945 towards the end of World War II in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp risk their lives by taking in a young Jewish boy rescued from a ghetto in Poland. The camp commander hears about the boy and tightens up on the already cruelly treated prisoners. They whisk the boy away from being discovered, always staying one step ahead of the Nazi guards and the ireful commandant. The boy is eventually discovered and the prisoners who protected him now face certain death. They are freed by the Allies in a dramatic but altogether expected turn of events. Cast * ... Frank Beyer
Frank Paul Beyer (; 26 May 1932 – 1 October 2006) was a German film director. In East Germany he was one of the most important film directors, working for the state film monopoly DEFA and directed films that dealt mostly with the Nazi era and contemporary East Germany. His film ''Trace of Stones'' was banned for 20 years in 1966 by the ruling SED. His 1975 film '' Jacob the Liar'' was the only East German film ever nominated for an Academy Award. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 until his death he mostly directed television films.
