Najma Akhtar also known as Najma (born 18 September 1962) is a British singer of Indian ancestry. She was born in Chelmsford, England. She is noted for jazz modification of the traditional Urdu Indian ghazal (love songs and spiritual songs). She has also appeared as a performer in the songs and videos of other performers, such as jazz and rock saxophonist Stan Harrison. ''Najma'' (Hindi: नजमा) is a 1943 Indian film directed by Mehboob Khan and starring Ashok Kumar and Veena. The film's music is by Rafiq Ghaznavi with lyrics by Anjum Pilibhiti. ''Najma'' was the first film under Mehboob Khan's Mehboob Productions banner. Mehboob Khan paid Ashok Kumar Rs. 1 lakh for his role in the film, a record at the time. Najma Akhtar (born 1953) is an Indian academic and academic administrator. Since April 2019, she has been the Vice Chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, an Indian university. She is also the first woman to hold the post in JMI. Education Akhtar was born in 1953.
