Naft Al-Basra SC ( ar, نادي نفط البصرة الرياضي, lit=''Basra Oil Sport Club'') is a football club based in Al-Tamimia District, Basra, Iraq, that plays in Iraqi Premier League. History Name changes The club was founded on 27 November 1979 as "Naft Al-Junoob", before changing to the name "Al-Rumaila" on 6 March 1990, and returned to the name "Naft Al-Junoob" on 20 April 2003, the club played in Iraqi Premier League at the 2004–05 season for the first time. On October 23, 2020, the club's management, which was elected a few days prior, decided to change the name of the club from "Naft Al-Junoob" to "Naft Al-Basra" and officially announced this, as they changed the logo. Basra International Stadium ( ar, مدينة البصرة الرياضية) is a sports complex in Basra, southern Iraq. Overview Its construction started on 1 January 2009 and was completed on 12 October 2013. The sports city was funded by the government of Iraq with a budget of $550 million. It contains a main stadium with a capacity of 65,000 people, a secondary stadium with a capacity of 10,000, four Five Star hotels and other sports-related facilities. The contract of this project was given to Abdullah Al-Jaburi, a major Iraqi construction contractor, and two American companies, 360 architecture and Newport Global. Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Basheer ( ar, عبد الرزاق أحمد بشير , born 1 July 1944) is an Iraqi former football forward who played for Iraq in the 1972 AFC Asian Cup qualification and 1974 FIFA World Cup qualification.
