Nada Tončić
Nada Tončić (July 30, 1909 – March 29, 1998) was a Croatian soprano opera singer. Tončić was born in Syrmian city of Zemun (then in Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia, Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary, now in Belgrade Region, Serbia). She studied singing at the Zagreb Academy of Music. Her career began in 1933 in the opera company of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, where she remained until 1963. ''La traviata'' (; ''The Fallen Woman'') is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It is based on ''La Dame aux camélias'' (1852), a play by Alexandre Dumas ''fils'' adapted from his own 1848 novel. The opera was originally titled ''Violetta'', after the main character. It was first performed on 6 March 1853 at La Fenice opera house in Venice. Piave and Verdi wanted to follow Dumas in giving the opera a contemporary setting, but the authorities at La Fenice insisted that it be set in the past, "c. 1700". It was not until the 1880s that the composer's and librettist's original wishes were carried out and " realistic" productions were staged. Croats are a recognized national minority in Serbia, a status they received in 2002. The majority of the Bunjevac and Šokac communities traditionally identify as part of the Croatian minority as well. According to the 2011 census, there were 57,900 Croats in Serbia or 0.8% of the country's population. Of these, 47,033 lived in Vojvodina, where they formed the fourth largest ethnic group, representing 2.8% of the population. Josip Crnobori
Josip Crnobori (born in Banjole near Pula on 22 October 1907 - died 12 August 2005) was a Croatian painter. Crnobori was born near Pula in Istria in 1907, but his family moved to Vienna in 1915 where he attended primary school. He came to Zagreb in 1925 and by 1936 he finished art academy. The libretto, organised by the composer himself, very closely follows certain passages in Alexander Pushkin's 1825-1832 Eugene Onegin, novel in verse, retaining much of his poetry. Tchaikovsky's friend Konstantin Shilovsky contributed M.
