''The Beginning'' (russian: Начало, Nachalo) is a 1970 Soviet romantic drama film directed by Gleb Panfilov and starring Inna Churikova as Pasha, a factory worker and small-time actress whose life is transformed first by falling in love with the married Arkady (Leonid Kuravlyov) and then by being offered the lead in a movie about Joan of Arc. Gleb Panfilov
Gleb Anatolyevich Panfilov (russian: Глеб Анатольевич Панфилов, link=no; born 21 May 1934 in Magnitogorsk) is an internationally acclaimed Russian film director noted for a string of mostly historical films starring his wife, Inna Churikova. Biography In the 1980s Panfilov, a chemist by profession, moved to theatre directing, but also found time to adapt for the screen Alexander Vampilov's play ''Valentina'' (1981), as well as Maxim Gorky's '' Vassa Zheleznova'' (1983) and ''Mother'' Mother (1990 film), (1989). ''Vassa'' won the Golden Prize at the 13th Moscow International Film Festival and Russia's State Prize. He won the Golden Bear at the 37th Berlin International Film Festival for the film ''The Theme''. Pierre Cauchon
Pierre Cauchon (1371 – 18 December 1442) was Bishop of Beauvais from 1420 to 1432. He was a strong partisan of English interests in France during the latter years of the Hundred Years' War. He was the judge in the trial of Joan of Arc and played a key role in her execution. The Catholic Church overturned his verdict in 1456. Background Cauchon came from a middle-class family in Rheims. He entered the clergy as a teenager and went to Paris, where he studied at the University of Paris. Cauchon was a brilliant student in the liberal arts. Yefim Zakharovich Kopelyan (russian: Ефим Захарович Копелян; 12 April 1912 – 6 March 1975) was a Soviet Union, Soviet actor of theatre and cinema, one of the legendary masters of the Bolshoi Theatre of Drama (BDT) in Leningrad.
