Bernard Ignatius "Nace" Mattingly (January 21, 1921 – November 29, 2000) was a NASCAR Grand National Cup Series driver from Leonardtown, Maryland, Leonardtown, Maryland. Summary He raced in NASCAR from 1955 in NASCAR, 1955 to 1960 in NASCAR, 1960; picking up two "top five" finishes and five "top ten" finishes. Mattingly drove 2,639 laps and earned a grand total of $2,320 ($ when adjusted for inflation). His average start was 20th place while his average finish was in 18th place. Mattingly's only DNQ came at the 1957 Virginia 500. Driving the #88 Chrysler for the majority of his career, Mattingly was mostly associated with NASCAR owner Major Melton. Leonardtown, Maryland
Leonardtown is a town in and the county seat of St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 4,563 at the 2020 census. Leonardtown is perhaps most famous for the national oyster-shucking championship that is held annually at the St. Mary's County fairgrounds. Lincoln Speedway (Illinois)
Lincoln Speedway, located in Lincoln, Illinois on the Logan County Fairgrounds, is a 1/4 mile dirt race track that opened in 2004. Lincoln Speedway races on Friday nights. After running races sanctioning by the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP), it switched to DIRTcar sanction. In 2007 Lincoln Speedway hosted events for World of Outlaws Late Model Series and UMP Summernationals as well as their local racing series'. 2008 will see more of the same from both sanctioning bodies, as well as full-time sanctioning from United Midwestern Promoters. In 2008, Lincoln Speedway acquired their very own 2-seat Late Model, and offer rides in it after the racing program is finished. Lincoln Speedway's season opening race for 2011 is Friday, April 8, and the speedway will also hold a NASCAR Night on Tuesday, June 14 for the first time ever. ARCA Racing Series
The ARCA Menards Series is an American stock car series, the premier division of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). It is considered a minor, semi-professional league of stock car racing, used as a feeder series into the three national touring series of NASCAR, and hosts events at a variety of track types including superspeedways, road courses, and dirt tracks. USAC Stock Car
The USAC Stock Car division was the stock car racing class sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC). The division raced nationally; drivers from USAC's open wheel classes like Indy cars, Silver Crown, sprints, and midgets frequently competed in races and won championships. Several NASCAR drivers raced in USAC Stock Cars at various points in their careers. In the late 1950s, USAC Stock Cars rivaled NASCAR stock cars with races throughout the Midwestern and Northeastern United States. The 1957 Southern 500, the eighth running of the event, was a NASCAR Grand National Series event that was held on September 2, 1957, at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. Herb Thomas, already a three-time Southern 500 winner, arrived in Darlington in a visibly shaken state. Thomas finally gave up his ride to Fonty Flock stating that he was just too nervous to drive the race. The 1955 Southern 500, the sixth running of the event, was a NASCAR Grand National Series event. The event was held on September 5, 1955, at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. This race spanned 500 miles on a paved oval track. The Daytona Beach and Road Course was a race track that was instrumental in the formation of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. It originally became famous as the location where 15 world land speed records were set.
