AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Initiated in 1991, the database was first made available on the Internet in 1994. AllMusic is owned by RhythmOne. History AllMusic was launched as ''All Music Guide'' by Michael Erlewine, a "compulsive archivist, noted astrologer, Buddhist scholar and musician". He became interested in using computers for his astrological work in the mid-1970s and founded a software company, Matrix, in 1977. In the early 1990s, as CDs replaced LPs as the dominant format for recorded music, Erlewine purchased what he thought was a CD of early recordings by Little Richard. After buying it he discovered it was a "flaccid latter-day rehash". Frustrated with the labeling, he researched using metadata to create a music guide. Charlotte Hatherley
Charlotte Franklin Hatherley (born 20 June 1979) is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist and soundtrack composer. She initially came to prominence as guitarist and backing vocalist for alternative rock band Ash. Since leaving Ash in 2006, she has pursued a solo career and acted as a touring instrumentalist for Bryan Ferry, KT Tunstall, Bat for Lashes, Cold Specks, Rosie Lowe and Birdy. Hatherley has also been a touring member of NZCA Lines and is currently musical director for South African artist Nakhane. Biography Ash (1997–2006) Born in London, Hatherley was brought up in West London and attended Chiswick Community School. Her music career began at the age of 15, when she joined British punk band Nightnurse. Two years later, with Ash looking for a guitarist to add to their live sound, Hatherley was hired after frontman Tim Wheeler saw her play at a Nightnurse gig. Sarah Jones (drummer)
Sarah Jones (born 31 August 1985) is an English musician based in London, best known for her work as a session and touring drummer. She is a founding member of NYPC, and has also served as a touring drummer for musicians such as Aynsley Lister, Harry Styles, Bat for Lashes, post-punk revival band Bloc Party, and synthpop band Hot Chip. Additionally, she has released several solo singles under the moniker Pillow Person. In 2020, she played drums on the new Puscifer album, titled ''Existential Reckoning''. Early career Jones showed an interest in music from an early age. In an interview with ''Tom Tom Mag'', she stated that she started off playing the piano, and "although heliked it", the piano "wasn't exactly what hewas looking for." Jones began learning the drums after a family friend left a kit at her house, having been taught basic beats by her cousin. Lo Recordings
Lo Recordings is a label founded in 1995 by Jon Tye. They are noted for their strong visual style thanks to Non-Format, with whom they work very closely and won a D&AD award for several of their releases sleeves. Musical style Lo recordings mainly specialize in left-field electronic music with artists such as Grimes, Black Devil and Susumu Yokota, Fischerspooner amongst many others. This is reflected in the company's motto that reads "Lo Recordings - Provider of quality esoteric music since 1995". Along with electronic music Lo Recordings has also been known to release various other genres. This is exemplified by bands such as The Chap who have three albums on Lo with one forthcoming expected in mid-2012.
