''N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz'' is a ballet made by Jerome Robbins, subsequently ballet master of New York City Ballet (NYCB) to music of the same title by Robert Prince (composer), Robert Prince. The premiere took place on 8 June 1958 at the Festival dei Due Mondi, Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, performed by Ballets: USA and subsequently on Broadway. The NYCB premiere was on 29 April 2005 at the David H. Koch Theater, New York State Theater, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center, with scenery by Ben Shahn, costumes by Florence Klutz and lighting by Jennifer Tipton. Jerome Robbins
Jerome Robbins (born Jerome Wilson Rabinowitz; October 11, 1918 – July 29, 1998) was an American dancer, choreographer, film director, theatre director and producer who worked in classical ballet, on stage, film, and television. Among his numerous stage productions were '' On the Town'', ''Peter Pan'', ''High Button Shoes'', ''The King and I'', ''The Pajama Game'', '' Bells Are Ringing'', ''West Side Story'', ''Gypsy'', and '' Fiddler on the Roof''. Robbins was a five-time Tony Award-winner and a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. Amar Ramasar
Amar Ramasar (born 1981) is an American ballet dancer and former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet (NYCB). Ramasar joined the NYCB as an apprentice in 2000 and joined the corps de ballet in 2001. As of 2010, Ramasar remained the only person of color who was a principal in NYCB. In 2018, Ramasar was fired from NYCB for sharing explicit pictures of female dancers without their knowledge or consent. In 2019, he made his debut at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. That same year, a union arbitrator ruled that, while suspension from NYCB was fitting, his firing was too severe a punishment. As a result, the arbitrator ordered Ramasar to be reinstated by the NYCB. In July 2021, the NYCB announced that Ramasar was retiring in May 2022. It is said to have the highest per capita attendance in the United States, with 11,000 subscribers in 2004. Craig Hall (dancer)
Craig Hall (born 1979) is an American ballet dancer. He danced with the New York City Ballet as a soloist until 2016 then became a repertory director, and was one of the company interim leaders between late 2017 and early 2019. Early life Hall was born in Maywood, Illinois, and started dance training at age 4. At age 14, he entered the Chicago Academy for the Arts. When he was 18, in 1997, he moved to New York City to train at the School of American Ballet full-time, having previously attended two summer intensives there. Rachel Rutherford
Rachel Rutherford (born Rachel Rutherford Englund Knapp) is a former soloist with New York City Ballet. Rutherford was born in New York City, the daughter of dancer and ballet teacher Gage Bush Englund. She began her training at age eight at the Joffrey Ballet School and entered the School of American Ballet in 1987. While attending the Chapin School, from which she eventually graduated in 1994, Rutherford also received the D.A.N.C.E. scholarship allowing her to study in Spring 1992 at the Royal Danish Ballet. Tiler Kalyn Peck (born January 12, 1989) is an American ballet dancer who is a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. As well as ballet, she has performed in musical theatre shows and has made cameo appearances in films including ''Donnie Darko'' and television series including ''Tiny Pretty Things''.
