NYPD Police Band
The Band of the City of New York Police Department, commonly known as the NYPD Police Band, is an American Police band which serves under the NYPD in New York City. The band currently has 70 members and is part of the NYPD Ceremonial Unit. The band's motto is as follows: ''Serve, Protect and Entertain''. The NYPD Band performs at department ceremonies, parades and community events across the city and in concerts around the world. History The band was founded in 1991, when the NYPD decided that it needed a ceremonial unit to provide musical accompaniment. It was originally founded with 12 members. The band had originally existed from 1901 to 1955 in order for the NYPD to be represented during official functions of the city. It was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and was a popular way for amateur and professional photographers to host high-resolution photos. On August 5, 2011, the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images. Garda Band
The Garda Band is the public relations branch of the Garda Síochána, which is the police service of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is composed of 29 full time members and was founded in 1922. History Its first public appearance was at Dún Laoghaire Pier on Easter Monday in 1923, and its first Bandmaster was Superintendent (police), Superintendent D.J. Delaney. In 1938, the Dublin Metropolitan Garda Band (based at Kevin Street) and the regular Garda Military Band were merged and were relocated to Phoenix Park. In 1964, the band was engaged in a North American tour of the United States and Canada under the direction of Superintendent (police), Superintendent J. Moloney. Ceremonial Band Of The Waterloo Regional Police
The Ceremonial Band of the Waterloo Regional Police is a Canadian police band based in Waterloo, Ontario. It was founded in 1977 when the WRPS was four years old. Since 2010, the band has partnered with local high schools and post-secondary institutions in the Waterloo-Oxford area. It is currently the only military-style brass and reed band that is attached to a Canadian police service. Being an organizational band for the community, it participates in local community functions and Parades, as well as travels outaide the region to attend musical tattoos and concerts. It also takes responsibility for providing musical accompaniment for the ceremonial functions of the WRPS, including memorials and funerals of fallen police officers, award ceremonies and ceremonial inspections. Milwaukee Police Band
The Milwaukee Police Band is an American police band in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is the oldest currently active police band in the United States and serves as the official musical unit of the Milwaukee Police Department. It is composed of both civilian and police personnel who volunteer to work with the band. The band is funded by the Milwaukee Police Athletic Association, due none of the city budget being available to fund its operations. The MPD band performs regularly at events such as Peace Officers Memorial Day, graduation ceremonies and other Civic functions. The NYPD Pipes and Drums is a Pipe band made up of active and retired police officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). It is associated with the Irish American Emerald Society and was formerly known as the Emerald Society's Pipe and Drum Band. Formed in 1960, the NYPD Pipes and Drums was one of the first Police Pipe bands to form in the United States. Sergeant Finbar Devine was drum major from 1960 - 1995. It is an annual participant in the St. Patrick's Day parade in New York City and the Inaugural parade in Washington. It has historically played for Popes and Presidents, and city officials. In 2017, it performed at the United States presidential inauguration parade for President Donald Trump. "The Stars and Stripes Forever" is a patriotic American march written and composed by John Philip Sousa in 1896. By a 1987 act of the U.S. Congress, it is the official National March of the United States of America. History In his 1928 autobiography, ''Marching Along'', Sousa wrote that he composed the march on Christmas Day, 1896. He was on board an ocean liner on his way home from a vacation with his wife in Europe and had just learned of the recent death of David Blakely, the manager of the Sousa Band. "The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the "Defence of Fort M'Henry", a poem written on September 14, 1814, by 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Key after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Outer Baltimore Harbor in the Patapsco River during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large U.S. flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes, known as the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the U.S. victory. ''Fanfare for the Common Man'' is a musical work by the American composer Aaron Copland. It was written in 1942 for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under conductor Eugene Goossens and was inspired in part by a speech made earlier that year by then American Vice President Henry A. Wallace, in which Wallace proclaimed the dawning of the "Century of the Common Man". Several alternative versions have been made and fragments of the work have appeared in many subsequent US and British cultural productions, such as in the musical scores of movies.
