NTU Centre For Contemporary Art Singapore
NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore (NTU CCA Singapore) is a national research centre affiliated with Nanyang Technological University (NTU). NTU CCA Singapore is located in Gillman Barracks, a visual arts precinct in Singapore. Set up in 2013, the centre is currently headed by Founding Director Ute Meta Bauer, who is also Professor at NTU's School of Art, Design and Media. After its closure of exhibition space and residency studios in March 2021, the centre still retains its research centre and office at Block 6 Lock Road. History Initially named as the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) in October 2013, it became operational more than a year after Gillman Barracks officially launched on 15 September, 2012. Gillman Barracks
Gillman Barracks is a contemporary arts cluster in Singapore that is home to international art galleries, restaurants and the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore, which are all housed in conserved colonial barracks. Gillman Barracks lies near to Alexandra Road, and the site covers Lock Road and Malan Road amid greenery. Gillman Barracks is jointly developed by the Singapore Economic Development Board, JTC Corporation and the National Arts Council. Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative
The Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative is a five-year program, supported by Swiss bank UBS in which the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation identifies and works with artists, curators and educators from South and Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa to expand its reach in the international art world. For each of the three phases of the project, the museum invites one curator from the chosen region to the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York City for a two-year curatorial residency, where they work with a team of Guggenheim staff to identify new artworks that reflect the range of talents in their parts of the world. Yang Fudong
Yang Fudong ( born 1971 in Beijing) is a Chinese contemporary artist. In the early 1990s, he began to work with film. He began creating films and videos using 35 mm film. Currently Yang directs films, creates photographs, and creates video installations. Yang is known to explore themes that are historical, social, and political by juxtaposing contradictions between current social issues, with cultural norms. A fan of the abstract and fragmented storyline, he tends to create sequences that are long and suspended, with the use of black-and-white as a constant. Simryn Gill (born 1959) is a Singapore-born artist who specializes in sculpture, photography, drawing, writing and publishing. Throughout her career, Gill has presented her art at several significant events, including Germany's Documenta art show and the Venice Biennale, and is one of Australia's most famous contemporary artists. Allan Sekula (January 15, 1951 – August 10, 2013) was an American photographer, writer, filmmaker, theorist and critic. Tomás Saraceno (San Miguel de Tucumán, 1973) is an Argentine contemporary artist whose projects, consisting of floating sculptures, international collaborations, and interactive installations, propose and dialogue with forms of inhabiting and sensing the environment that have been suppressed in the Capitalocene era.
