NLnet Labs
NLnet Labs is a network research laboratory founded in Amsterdam in 1999 by the board members of NLnet. They develop DNS-related software, such as NSD, Unbound, OpenDNSSEC and getDNS. History The roots of NLnet Labs have their origins in the NLnet Foundation. NLnet's core business is to support independent organisations and people that contribute to an open information society. For long term research projects, NLnet Labs was founded in 1999 by the board members of NLnet and Ted Lindgreen. One of the first activities was creating an implementation for DNSSEC. The NLnet Foundation supports organizations and people that contribute to an open information society. It was influential in spreading the Internet throughout Europe in the 1980s. In 1997, the foundation sold off its commercial networking operations to UUNET (now part of Verizon), resulting in an endowment with which it makes grants. Unbound (DNS Server)
Unbound is a validating, recursive, and caching DNS resolver product from NLnet Labs. It is distributed free of charge in open-source form under the BSD license. OpenDNSSEC
OpenDNSSEC is a computer program that manages the security of domain names on the Internet. The project intends to drive adoption of Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) to further enhance Internet security. OpenDNSSEC was created as an open-source turn-key solution for DNSSEC. It secures DNS zone data just before it is published in an authoritative name server. OpenDNSSEC takes in unsigned zones, adds digital signatures and other records for DNSSEC and passes it on to the authoritative name servers for that zone. All keys are stored in a hardware security module and accessed via PKCS #11, a standard software interface for communicating with devices which hold cryptographic information and perform cryptographic functions. OpenDNSSEC uses the Botan cryptographic library, and SQLite or MySQL as database back-end. RIPE NCC
RIPE NCC (''Réseaux IP Européens'' Network Coordination Centre) is the regional Internet registry (RIR) for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. Its headquarters are in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with a branch office in Dubai, UAE. A RIR oversees the allocation and registration of Internet number resources ( IPv4 addresses, IPv6 addresses and autonomous system numbers) in a specific region. The RIPE NCC supports the technical and administrative coordination of the infrastructure of the Internet. It is a not-for-profit membership organisation with over 10,000 (as of March 2014) members located in over 76 countries in its service region. Any individual or organisation can become a member of the RIPE NCC. The membership consists mainly of Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations, educational institutions, governments, regulatory agencies, and large corporations.
