''NHL FaceOff 98'' is a video game developed by Killer Game and published by Sony Computer Entertainment of America for the PlayStation. It's part of the NHL FaceOff series, and was the first installment to use polygonal players. Reception Reviews for ''NHL FaceOff 98'' were wildly divergent, with critics expressing contradicting opinions on numerous aspects of the game. Kraig Kujawa and John Ricciardi of ''Electronic Gaming Monthly'' found the A.I. too easy even on the hardest setting, but their co-reviewer Kelly Rickards complained that it is frustratingly difficult. While ''GameSpot''s Jeff Gerstmann and ''GamePro'' said the on-ice sound effects were well done, Kujawa and ''IGN''s early review both said they lack excitement and atmosphere. ''GameFan'' (originally known as ''Diehard GameFan'') was a publication started by Tim Lindquist, Greg Off, George Weising. and Dave Halverson in September 1992 that provided coverage of domestic and import video games. It was notable for its extensive use of game screenshots in page design because of the lack of good screen shots in other U.S. publications at the time. The original magazine ceased publishing in December 2000. In April 2010, Halverson relaunched ''GameFan'' as a hybrid video game/film magazine. Tommy Tallarico (born Thomas Andrew Tallarico; February 18, 1968) is an American video game music composer, musician, sound designer, television personality, live show creative director and producer. He and his company, Tommy Tallarico Studios, worked on several video games since the 1990s. He co-hosted the television shows ''Electric Playground'' and ''Reviews on the Run'' from 1997 until 2006. In 2002, he created Video Games Live (VGL), a global video game music orchestra. ''NHL 98'' is an ice hockey video game developed by Electronic Arts Canada. It was released in 1997 and was the successor to ''NHL 97''. It was the last installment of the NHL series to be released on the SNES, Sega Genesis, or Sega Saturn. Features ''NHL 98'' took the NHL series ahead by introducing full national teams, although EA could not get the Nagano Olympic Tournament license due to lack of IIHF license, which Gremlin Interactive acquired. The Olympic hockey license itself was acquired by Midway Home Entertainment. Jim Hughson returns for play-by-play, this time joined by Daryl Reaugh, who provided color commentary.
