NEHL
The North Eastern Hockey League was a semi-professional ice hockey league from 2003 until 2008. It was created by entrepreneur Jim Cashman, who served as league president. The NEHL was built to focus on giving players that were not quite ready for the ECHL, United Hockey League, and the Central Hockey League a place to play and develop after their Junior and college careers had finished. In the 2003-04 season, nine total players moved up to the "AA" level and remained there and six of those players came from the York IceCats alone. History The League started with four franchises, the York IceCats out of York, Pennsylvania, Jamestown Titans out of Jamestown, New York, Mohawk Valley Comets out of Whitestown, New York and the Poughkeepsie Panthers out of Poughkeepsie, New York. Mohawk Valley IceCats
The Norfolk IceCats were a semi-professional hockey team in the North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) based in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada owned by Jim Cashman. The franchise was previously known as the York IceCats until a move to St. Catharines, Ontario in 2005. However, the league suspended operations for the season after only six games played. For the 2006-07 season the IceCats were known as the Mohawk Valley IceCats, playing in Utica, New York. The IceCats played in the league finals in both the 2003-04 and 2006-07 seasons. In the 2007-08 season they were dominating the league before the NEHL suspended operations. They had outscored their opposition 65-33 in six games. New England Stars
The New England Stars were a North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) team based in Danbury, Connecticut who started play at the end of 2006. The team filled the void when the Danbury Trashers left the Danbury Ice Arena, after the Trashers folded due to involvement in illegal business. 2006-2007 Season The New England Stars swept the two game championship series 2–0 to finish the season an astounding 22-0 .The Stars were by far the most successful team in the 2006–07 season, going undefeated as of March 18, 2007. Their superiority against the rest of the league was tested on March 18 when they played against an all-star team made up of the best players on the other three NEHL teams. The Jamestown Titans were a semi-professional ice hockey team in North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) based in Jamestown, New York. A postmortem on the team and the league written by ''The Post-Journal'' noted that the team was not particularly well remembered in Jamestown hockey history. The team's existence was marred by poor organizational changes, scheduling games at odd times and ever-changing ticket prices. Mohawk Valley Comets (NEHL)
The Mohawk Valley Comets were a semi-professional ice hockey team in the North Eastern Hockey League (NEHL) based in Whitestown, New York. The franchise was a strong team of mostly local talent coming from the Mohawk Valley. The Comets had a 16-4 record and were in first place during the regular season. When concerns of Comets players not being available for the final month of the season or playoffs due to their summer jobs starting, Coach Brett Boake requested a schedule change and the season was shortened by a month. The Comets decided 2 days before the playoff weekend that they were not going to participate as not enough players were available and they had financial concerns. The team did not return for the 2005-06 season. Copper City Chiefs
The Copper City Chiefs were a low-level professional ice hockey team located in Rome, New York. The team was owned by Wayne Premo. Franchise History The Chiefs joined the NEHL as an expansion team for the 2007-2008 season. When the season was cancelled and the league folded mid-season in January 2008 the Chiefs after playing 8 games had a record of 4 wins and 4 losses. The owners tried to schedule Canadian Sr. teams to complete the remaining the home schedule to no avail. The team was announced as a member of the EPHL on April 22, 2008 but the name was not officially announced until July 2, 2008. Mr Premeo obtained the name "Copper City Chiefs" from the Copper City Chiefs a Semi-professional hockey team from Rome, New York, who also played their games at the Kennedy Arena from 1964-1988.
