North Carolina Highway 226A (NC 226A) is an alternate state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Signed along two segments that branch from NC 226: The first connecting the community of Little Switzerland; the second as a bypass west of Bakersville. It is also distinctive as being one of two alternate state routes in North Carolina, the other being NC 268A. Route description The first section, a two-lane mountain highway also known as the Diamondback by motorcycle enthusiasts, begins near Woodlawn, from US 221. Once on NC 226A, the first sign is a notice to truckers indicating steep winding road ahead, trucks not recommended. For the first , it marginally increases in elevation, yet curvy, as it follows westerly along the banks of the Armstrong Creek then Three Mile Creek. Woodlawn is a census-designated place in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. Geography Woodlawn is located at (36.118880, -79.297124). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which is land and , or 6.60%, is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 1,051 people, 408 households, and 321 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 210.7 people per square mile (81.3/km). There were 431 housing units at an average density of 86.4/sq mi (33.3/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 76.50% White, 21.03% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.38% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.05% of the population.
