The 1986 NCAA basketball tournament was the 62nd season in the Philippine National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). For the fourth time in five years, the Letran Knights have crowned themselves basketball champions in the Seniors division. The Staglets of San Sebastian College beat comebacking San Beda Red Cubs, 2–1, in their own title series for the Junior division championship. Seniors' tournament Elimination round Format: *Tournament divided into two halves: winners of the two halves dispute the championship in a best-of-3 finals series unless: **A team wins both rounds. In that case, the winning team automatically wins the championship. **A third team has a better cumulative record than both finalists. Rizal Memorial Coliseum
The Rizal Memorial Coliseum is an indoor arena in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines. Its capacity is 6,100. History The Rizal Memorial Coliseum within the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex was built on the former site of Manila Carnival Grounds in 1934 as a tennis stadium named "Rizal Memorial Tennis Stadium", but was later renamed “Rizal Memorial Coliseum” at an unknown time. It became a primary venue for the UAAP and the NCAA, before moving to much-larger venues such as the Araneta Coliseum. It was one of the buildings that were destroyed during the Battle of Manila of World War II in 1945 and was reconstructed in 1953 for the 1954 Asian Games. Letran Knights
The Letran Knights are the collegiate varsity teams representing Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The collegiate women's varsity teams are called the ''Lady Knights'', while the high school varsity teams are called the ''Squires''. The college's varsity teams also participate in other sports leagues such as the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup, Fr. San Beda Red Cubs
The San Beda Red Lions is the collegiate varsity basketball team of the San Beda University that plays in the NCAA. The juniors basketball team is called the Red Cubs of San Beda University–Rizal, while the women's varsity basketball team is called the Red Lionesses. UAAP Season 49 Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1986 UAAP men's basketball tournament was the 49th year of the men's tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s basketball championship. Hosted by National University, the UP Fighting Maroons defeated the UE Red Warriors in the finals taking their first UAAP men's basketball championship in 47 years. Prior to the start of the season, De La Salle University was admitted as the eighth member school of the league.
