NBPA Players Awards
The NBPA Players Awards is an annual American awards ceremony presented by the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) honoring achievements in the National Basketball Association (NBA). In an ongoing series of statements by various NBA players, a need was expressed for awards voted on by NBA players as a counterpoint to the "official" NBA awards, voted on by a panel of NBA print and broadcast media. On 15 April 2015, Michele Roberts, the Executive Director of the NBPA issued a statement announcing "a peer recognition awards program … at the request of the players. … Our members want to recognize outstanding performance of their peers …. Paradise, Nevada
Paradise is an unincorporated town and census-designated place (CDP) in Clark County, Nevada, United States, adjacent to the city of Las Vegas. It was formed on December 8, 1950. The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) is a labor union that represents National Basketball Association (NBA) players. It was founded in 1954, making it the oldest trade union of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. Michele Roberts (NBPA Executive Director)
Michele A. Roberts (born 1956) is an American attorney and former executive director of the National Basketball Players Association. She was the first woman to hold that position and the first woman to head a major professional sports union in North America. Previously, she was an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Early life Roberts grew up in a housing project in the South Bronx neighborhood of The Bronx in New York City. She attended the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in 1977 and her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley's School of Law in 1980. Career Roberts began her career in 1980 at Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. She served in that role for eight years, rising to the chief of the trial division. BET Her (formerly Centric) is an American basic cable television network owned by Paramount Media Networks. The network is a spin-off of BET with a focus on general entertainment targeting African-American women. The Rio is a hotel and casino near the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. It is owned by Dreamscape Companies LLC and operated by Caesars Entertainment. It includes a casino and 2,520 suites. It features a Brazilian theme based on Rio Carnival. The Rio opened on January 15, 1990, with a casino and 424 suites. National Basketball Association Awards
The National Basketball Association (NBA) presents 13 annual awards to recognize its teams, players, and coaches for their accomplishments. This does not include the NBA championship trophy which is given to the winning team of the NBA Finals. The NBA's championship trophy made its first appearance after the inaugural NBA Finals in 1947. In 1964, it was named after Walter A. Brown who was instrumental in merging the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League into the NBA. The Brown Trophy design remained the same until 1977 when the current trophy design was first introduced although it retained the Walter A. Brown title.
