Known as the State Basketball League (SBL) Grand Final Most Valuable Player from 1996 (earliest known case) to 2019, the SBL was rebranded to NBL1 West in 2021. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. The team is affiliated with Kalgoorlie-Boulder Basketball Association (KBBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. Ben Purser
Ben Purser (born 24 February 1990) is an Australian basketball player for the Perry Lakes Hawks of the NBL1 West. He debuted for the Hawks in 2008 in the State Basketball League (SBL) and helped them win an SBL championship in 2018 with grand final MVP honours. He won a second championship with the Hawks in 2021 in the first season of the NBL1 West. Alison Renee Schwagmeyer (born July 31, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the University of Canberra Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Lee Roberts (born February 10, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Findlay Oilers between 2005 and 2009, where he won an NCAA Division II national championship as a senior. Since 2011, Roberts has had consistent yearly stints in the NBL1 West in Australia. He has also consistently played seasons in South America since 2012. Greg Hire (born 19 September 1987) is an Australian former professional basketball player. He played four years of college basketball in the United States before joining the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (NBL) in 2010 as a development player.
