''ESPN NBA 2K5'' is a 2004 basketball simulation video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by both Sega and Global Star Software. It was released in September 2004 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox (console), Xbox in North America, and February 2005 in Europe. The sixth installment in the ''NBA 2K'' series, it is the successor to ''ESPN NBA Basketball (video game), ESPN NBA Basketball'', and the predecessor to ''NBA 2K6''. Ben Wallace (basketball), Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons is the cover athlete; this marks the first time in the series that a player other than Allen Iverson was featured as a cover athlete. William Theodore Walton III (born November 5, 1952) is an American television sportscaster and former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for coach John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins, winning three consecutive national college player of the year awards (1972–1974), while leading UCLA to NCAA championships in 1972 and 1973 and an 88-game winning streak. After being selected as the first overall pick in the 1974 NBA draft, Walton led the Portland Trail Blazers to an NBA championship in 1977, earning the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award that season.
